I don't see how people can go on saying that God doesn't exist and that He doesn't love or care about us when He sent His only Son to save us from our sins no matter what they be. It surprises me that some people in prison have a stronger belief that most people free to roam where they will. Now true the people in prison have done something majorly wrong (by human standards) but the plain fact that they will repent and COMPLETLY change and become better people. Amazes me that the faith of those who are free is not as strong as some of those in prison, just maybe what they have done seems littleto us, but to God all sins are big things . Because there is no such thing as a little sin. To God all sins are equal.

We know instinctly that there is something about life that is beyond us. For example, your parents could want to have a child. They could even wish for a boy or a girl. But that is it. Your parents have no control over wanting to have you, the person. The moment you are born, then your parents can be happy to have you. So there is something beyond what both parents contribute for life. We are called to come closer to one another and in doing so we come closer to God. It is that simple. We are to grow and learn to help one another. In doing this we help ourselves by default. This is what life is about.

Many times people won't even consider that there is a God, until they need help, or feel desperate. Yet, even an atheist curses using God's name, so it is funny when they say they don't believe. Even THEY tend to lean towards believing when they have a crisis in their lives. People don't want to believe there is a God, because they don't want to give anyone credit but themselves for the good, and blame someone else for the bad. This is why God's word says to STUDY it. It doesn't say READ, it says STUDY. Those who study know more truth than those who simply read. Funny that people will put stock into science, but not into a Creator. Try to avoid fools, my friend. There have been many great men come OUT of prisons. Then again, there have also been a lot of men and women who developed prison religion, and turned their backs on it when they became free. God bless those who stand strong!

If they are saying he doesn't exist, then they aren't saying he doesn't care. He has to exist in order to care. And if I were All-Powerful, created Everything that exists and KNEW well ahead of time what was going to happen, I sure wouldn't have put that tree in the Garden so man could fall due to sin and in turn tick me off to the point that I have to send an innocent "Child" to be sacrificed (Human sacrifice is rather disturbing) so that I don't get TOO mad at the people I created to begin with.

And actually, that's silly, to say that all sins are equal. There is no justice in treating someone who stole a candy bar the same as you would treat someone who murdered another person. If it's all the same to God, you can't really say he's Just or Merciful. And according to the Bible, there is one sin that is not equal to all others, simply because it's not forgiveable.... blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.

Imprisonment actually serves to separate the human being from much of "the world" and its distractions. Time becomes the prisoner's currency, and it is well spent in reflection. Many do come to religion because they are finally forced to look hard at both their lives and their coming mortality.
To help understand the prison experience, you might read Solzhenitsyn's _Gulag Archipelago_. Or, if you are daunted by the three volumes, you could read Dostoevsky's _House of the Dead_, which also deals with a prisoner's life, only in the Tsarist prison system. So too does _One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich,_ also by Aleksandr Solzhenisyn.

I have read other books which also impressed me, among them a book by a Bulgarian who found Christ while imprisoned, and devoled the rest of his life to smuggling Bibles into the Iron Curtain(3). Another was by Jacob Timmerman, a Jewish newspaper editor who was "disappeared" by Argentine military, tortured, and imprisoned for some time. In my readings, I have found that prison does bring a person much time to reflect, think, maybe even write. It is amazing to see to what lengths people will go to write or memorize thought and expression. Oh, one more comes to mind, Malika Oufkir's memoirs, _Stolen Lives, Twenty Years in a Desert Jail_ of her and her family's imprisonment in Morocco, after her father was implicated in an attempt on King Hassan II.

First of all, your questions are related to traditional interpretations of the Bible. God does not have to be what some parts of the Bible portrays Him to be, nor does His principles. From a simplistic point of view, let's say that God is an infinite ocean of energy, a self-conscious mass of energy. Within that mass or rather composing that mass are an infinite number of droplets or smaller energy forms. These minute energy forms are us. Each of us is evolving from consciousness to consciousness or awareness to awareness until oneness with God is realized. Some have advanced in the process, like Jesus Christ. If God were to do everything for us, we would be like automatons. As a Father, he doesn't want to be spoon-feeding humanity. We must find our way on our own, for that is the only way we can evolve as free-thinking spiritual entities. God does show His identity, but only to those who have spiritually "grown up". As to devotion, the form that manifests as charity is in accord with the Creative Principle since it helps alleviate suffering and therefore enhances the chance of helping others evolve as well. God has no needs. He knows us. But we don't know Him. It is our purpose to know Him, and this can only be achieved through the experiential knowledge of religion.

Ok, assuming God did send his only son, do ya know how long ago that was?? What has he done for you lately? Seen any burning bushes or seas parting in recent years?? How do you know he's still around?? You DON'T - it's what you BELIEVE. And you're entitled to that belief - just as everyone else is entitled to believe whatever they want. I also find it interesting that you seem to think you have such an insight into how God judges sins... has he outlined his policy in that department to you personally?

What do you think Adolf Hitler believed in? If he believed in God he might have done what he has done.

errm Hitler was a christian. people like to dismiss hitler as christian because they think it gives thier religion credibility.

back on topic. I can see that atheists focus on logic and reasoning, something i feel very few christians have IF ANY. I will say this: most atheists were once christians that had some pretty bad experiences with them, and calling those christians not a true christian doesnt help matters, it makes them worse or the old all have fallen mantra, any way you cut it people should practice what they preach or shut up about christianity.

Dream on Princess!....If there is a God then he's completely 'lost the plot'. Who in their right mind as 'a loving, caring, compassionate, forgiving God, would allow Religion to flourish, when its a 'Serial Killer'. The person Jesus was a Jewish rebel, he was tried, convicted for crimes against Rome and condemned to die the Roman way ie. crucified. He died period! A hundred or so years later the Vatican spin doctors got to work and with the co-operation of the corrupt clerics they spun a story that is spewed out to this day. Regarding those in prison:- Girl you really naive!

* So many versions of Christianity, many disagree with each other
* the hatred I see coming from most main stream religions, including Christianity
* Humans chose which canons to include in the official version(s) of the Bible
* no proof there is a God
* the trinity
* Most Christianity has Pagan roots, deny all you want
Christmas (Odin's night ride and/or Mithra), Easter (Oster), etc . . .
* How it "may" be interpreted - Lucifer is a savior from the stupidity of lack of knowledge of the Garden of Eden, and the progenator of human kind
* Noah's ark - with the dimensions given; how could there be a pair of every species.
* The Midevil Church fleecing of the far Western Teritories of Europe
* New American Evangelists complete hatred
* burning of other peoples, remember Salem?
* The Egyptian god figure Horus was said to have been born of the virgin Isis on December 25
To your point of people in jail, many people turn to alternate religions as well

** However we should all be free to practice the religion we wish to practice. Unfortuneatly some extreme versions of many religions do not believe in this, and they must be pointed out. Your question was basicaly how can people not beleive in Jehova. I am giving some arguments.

"In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own."

i think the reason why are people feel they dont need him because they think there in controll until there world come crashing down on them then they call out to him. Heres the thing if we have everything why look for something else? Until we for them most part get over ourselves there can not be any room for God to work on us. I am a christian and i believe strongly, But i think this is why people say there is no god but they are very wrong.

How can people sit on their high-horse and be so shocked that there are people out htere that are not of like mind to them?

Seriously... some don't believe in your god simply for the fact that they are on a different spiritual path... my religion has a female and male deity, both of which have multiple aspects, depending ont he pantheon I am working with. Theya re here to help us foster the greater good of all and learn the lessons our soul is meant to learn in this particular life... but that is my perspective.

another side is taking full responsibility for ones actions. Your problems are a direct result of your actions in life. SOme just don't believe in an outside force. SOme need proof, some see it in a different light alltogether.

open your mind, and open your eyes.
