When i guy lives alone he is a bachelor with a bachelor pad- which is cool!(well sometimes) but a single woman is often called a spinster! W.T.F! could there not be a better word. any suggestions for what i can call myself now i came a single gal again?

Single. Simply Single. There is nothing wrong with being single. Our society is too hung up on folks need to be a couple, or married, or this or that. That is the issue - too many bad hook-ups because of the society pressure to be with another - and if you're not - something must be wrong. Geeez... let it go folks. You're okay - Single is fine and calling yourself single is fine. Add a flair to it and say "successful single"

Americans have made up the word Bachelorette, Spinster is used more for old ladies.

What does it matter.....just call yourself "SINGLE".
Single guys (at least those in the UK) do not use the word bachelor.
Only people over 50 use the word bachelor (or spinster!) anyway, so get over it!
(Btw, bachelorette sounds even more stupid that bachelor!)

You can call yourself a bachelorette, or a beautiful, intelligent, independent woman, whichever you prefer. I know the double standard is horrible.

its left over from an old way of thinking.
being an old bachelor was not seen as a good thing either.
thank goodness we left those day behind and can be happy for filled people by ourselves.
