We have got this image , because we ARE secular.
But with people like you around , it is a good idea. Hindus are way to tolerant for their own good.
Problem is Secularism is basic principle of Hinduism. We can not be as narrow minded as Abrahmic religion followers.
Some Indians do not want to be reminded about the problems of Hindus outside their milieu. And for some in the Indian intelligentsia, it is a badge of honour to distance themselves from these pogroms of Hindus as a mark of their supposed enlightenment, oddly trashing their own ethos in the process.
Many more Indians are reluctant to speak out against atrocities committed against Hindus for fear of being labeled "communal". Merely speaking about human rights for Hindus is for them a form of communalism.
And people like you take advantage of this tolerance to malign Hinduism and India's image.

There is uprising Islmic terrorism
There are conversions of poor tribals by missionaries.
Hindus are becoming helpless in their own country
But still India has to remain secular... because it is the basic principle of Hinduism, to be tolerant and not to hate other faiths
India is going to be spiritual guru of the world in the future

No country likes to show its bad points to others. I am from India too, and I know its difficult for the 1 crore people of different relegions to stay together, there are bound to be riots, but still, India is fairly secular. No country has these many relegions...or else theyll know how difficult is it for people of so many different relegions to stay together.
