No exercise, no claws, no nuts......He's depressed! Seriously though, it could also be a thyroid problem-- this is what my friend's dog was just diagnosed with.

Cats like people have different metabolic rates. I have 4 cats and they all get the same food. One is extremely thin. One is normal and the other two are FATTTTTTTTT. Because of the fat cats they are all on wd (weight control diet) food. You know, I don't know how overweight your cat is, but I've never noticed that being fat by itself affected the health of the cat. I'm not talking about a 25 pound cat, but maybe around 15 pounds for an adult male. One of my chronically overweight cats died last year, at 15, another died a few years ago at 18. They were always overweight, between 15 and 18 pounds.

what might help is cut the food in half only feed him half of the can food a day and suplament his diet with dry food. Since he is use to caned it will take longer for him to eat it. we have two cats at home and they both have dif. issues. if he isn't active. put the food in cut up coffee filters and hid them. he has to run around the house to find his food. it's fun for him and he gets the active lifestyle all cats need.

Can you see his backbone?? Usually if you can not see the backbone, your cat is overweight. Try to find some activities for him to do in the house. A brown paper bag with toys in it and/or a climbing post with danglies are fun. Try to spend 30 mins a day with your beloved cat to get him some excersise.
