is this a "sin"?

im a new Christian (i dont belong to any church) .Id like to ask you wether its a sin to believe in universal energy and use it for healing? Let me explain my definition of universal energy-reiki: modern quantum physics has shown that everything is composed of energy which, when in dense form, forms atoms. this means that everything physical is energy. From biblical point of view, God created everything from Word. As we know, biblical language is symbolic. So, when we consider Word to be something not physical, yet existing, could that be a synonym of energy? Eastern religions believe in this energy as well, they call it reiki. So, my question is: when i use reiki for healing, is it a sin? (im not asking about opinion of Church, but what the Bible says about it. I havent read it yet)

What I see is a lot of people condemning a practice - based on the fact that they have no clue what they are talking about. I havent seen one person on the list answer from a 'Reiki practicing Christian' view point - just people talking from a position of ignorance about the particular subject. Has anyone spoken through experience?

I am a non-denominational minister, and, have learned to look past man made religious dogma to the true work of Gods love. Healing is Gods love. Healing is Gods will. I would not think that God would want someone to suffer needlessly.

Do we not pray for healing? Do we not ask God to heal those who are sick? What makes Reiki any different than this? Some refer to Reiki as 'Universal energy' that comes from a universal source - PEOPLE >>> what do you think the Universal source is? GOD.

Jesus healed and said that anyone can do these things.

As a side note, I know a group of Nuns who teach Reiki. I also know many Christians who practice Reiki.

In the end, you'll be able to find Christians who can justify using Reiki. Other Christians will condemn it. Anything can be justified if you look hard enough.

If you use Reiki with Gods love behind it, you can do no wrong.

Healing people certainly is not a sin, Christ healed many people in miraculous ways. Sometimes merely by telling them they were healthy or commanding them to get up and walk. I have never gotten any ideas about "universal energy" from the bible. I believe that I should "speak where the bible speaks and be silent where the bible is silent." This means that I shouldn't condemn you for considering the existance of it. However, when the apostles in the bible tried to heal people and could not, Christ told them that they could only succeed in these miracles if they had faith that God would do it through them and that they should give the glory to God and not take credit for themselves. In Christian healings we ask God to heal the person, often ask for forgiveness of any sins the person committed, and sometimes lay hands on them or annoint them. If you believe that this "universal energy" is something purely from God you would be giving God the credit for any healings you use it for, and I think that is perfectly acceptable according to the bible.

Eastern religions may think it's the same power but it is not. God's healing is real and Satan counterfeits everything God does so that he can confuse people into thinking that it's the real thing and so believe in a lie and be lost eternally. Only by knowing the genuine can you then recognize the counterfeit. If you really want to know the truth read the bible and ask God to help you understand and discern that which is not from Him. He is faithful and will help you because you are seeking His answers.

If you are a Christian, the first thing you need to do is get to a good bible teaching church and read and study the bible. Becoming a Christian, believing in Christ, is only the first step. The rest is a life long walk with God; finding out about Him, learning about Jesus...learning how to live as God would have you live.

If you do the above, the study of the bible will answer your questions. Briefly, just to let you know, there are only two sources of power in the universe: one is from God, to be used solely for His good purposes, and the other is from satan. Satan can give people power to do things, but it's always for his purposes, and remember, satan is interested in destroying you. He came to steal, kill and destroy, and only gives people power so they can in the long term, ruin themselves.

It's up to you how you want to interpret the Bible. Jesus healed by laying on his hands; what's to say that's not Reiki?
Some people are very narrow minded and full of fear and want to drag Satan into everything, as you can see in other answers you've received. It's up to YOU to decide what's in your heart.

You're not really saying where and how you get/use this power. The Bible is pretty clear: spiritual power outside of God is of Satan. And He alone it is who does the healing (James 5:14)

The sooner you begin your own study of the Bible- the sooner you will learn what is sinful and learn to understand how to serve God with the "fruit of the lips". Preaching as Christ taught his disciples to do is how modern day Christians worship God in truth and spirit and follow the commands of Christ. In this way our words have their highest power and we are working along side with God's angels in heaven and God himself and Christ Jesus the King.
