first you need to find out if its seborrheic dermatitis( dandruff)or something else. dandruff is usually dry or greasy scaling with itching. sever cases come with yellow-red scaling pustules(crusty oozing patches) along the hairline, behind the ears and can reach the eyebrows, nose and even the eyelashes. if simple scaling you can use a shampoo that has salicylic acid ,pyrithione or sulfites(Nizoral A-D) every other day until its under control, then one or two time a week.A gentle to the scalp baby shampoo works great in between and wont strip you hair of much needed sebum. for patches of oozing and crust, also for itch a corticosteroid lotion 0.01% used twice a day to the area or Salicylic Acid 3% as needed to the area. a good over the counter is Scalpicin. genetics and enviorment play a factor in the severity, winter months will be worse.
try rinsing your hair in cool water after washing, blow dry less and never sleep with wet hair. this creates pockets of moist heat and bacteria that irritate the scalp. if it becomes worse see your doctor.

My sister had a bad case of dandruff. She used Heads & Shoulders everyday and it did the trick. Also, try hot oil treatments before using the shampoo.

i would say without a doubt that you must treat the source not the hair-shampoo strips out all the vitality and nutrients in your hair; anyway i digress, get a shampoo for cradle cap-like for babies, they are very reasonably priced-if there is a problem with the skin(dandruff is dead skin cell's mainly) it will fix it and it's designed for babies so is very pure-or should be;think about it,it's dead skin not dead hair you wont believe the difference after 2 washes.they dont tell you this because they know their products are useless but they make too much money out of it.x

i agree, selsun blue is the best, and also try to stop using hair product such as gel or sprays because they can sometimes make it seem like you have dandruff.
