my kitten (who is about 10 months old) thinks she is a dog. i also have a bulldog mix who is almost 11 and i think the cat has learned these habits from the dog. my dog pants when he gets tired (duh) and i was wondering, is it normal for cats to pant?? because whenever she gets back from romping around in the woods she always comes back panting..?? she likes to dig in the dirt, too. i guess that one is a little more "normal" but the panting thing freaks me out! is something wrong with her?! please help. thanks!!

The panting is not odd at all - Both cats and dogs pant to help cool off - if they are doing it "too much" then you might want to ask your vet to check on any possible breathing problems.

Cats - outdoor ones even more so do enjoy digging from time to time. Infact almost all cats dig, if only in litter or soft dirt/sand - different cats do it for different reasons. Some just for the fun of it.

My largest cat - I swear he was a dog in a former life - he fetches, runs to the door when you come home. Follows you around the house and will actually get into the shower with you. And if you leave the lid up on the toilet, he'll drink right out of the bowl. Silly cat!

No, nothing is wrong with her besides being very rambuncious. I have 10 kittens that I am fostering right now and 3-4 may be panting at any given time because of how rough they play. Your kitten may also have a boyfriend in the woods( is she spayed?). The digging is normal because they bury their feces and urine. The only time you should be concerned is if she having difficulty breathing and her tongue is turning blue. Good luck with your little blurr.

Cats pant only when they are very hot. Make sure she has a cool place to rest and lots of fluids. If it happens all the time, you might want to check with a vet that she doesn't have problems breathing.

p.s. my cat acts like a dog sometimes too...he greets me at the door and loves to play fetch...but that's his personality.

I have a calico cat that pants, meows like a dog barks and follows us whereever we go, church, library, anywhere, she even rides in the stroller. So I gues it's ok. I love here just the way she is. She even attacks other cats and dogs.

It depends on the cat and the surroundings. We used to have a cat that did the same thing. He was just fine though. Don't panic. Everything is okay.

well make sure frum the vet that she doesn't have any breathing issues. She could be struggling. I brought my one pitt bull up with cats and he sometimes has certain characteristics that resemble a cat. He likes to curl up real small and sleep on a pillow. :)
