My uncle and grandfather have one and cant say the it cost anything to install it , i mean how much cost or trouble could it be.

Was he buried in a veterans cemetary? If so the cost should have been free. and they should have put it in. I would suggest that you talk to the funeral home they should have taken care of this at the time of the funeral..

My guess is that the cemetary wants to be sure it's done in a neat and orderly way, and done so that they can maintain your father's grave - mowing, etc - without having the plaque interfere with their operations. If it sits too tall, they can't mow over it. If it's installed in a sloppy manner, it doesn't look military or respectful.

Plus, it still takes time to set up and install the plaque. Someone there has to do the work. I assume that the military has standards about how the work should be done - got any idea of what those are?

If the money is a problem, talk to the cemetary about it, or call the local veteran's groups - the VFW, American Legion, etc. Maybe they can help.

No you can't do it yourself cause there are laws about it. I would contact the Veterans administration to see if they can help.

I'm from Missouri and here you can do it yourself, ask your cemetery and see if it is allowed, we did it for my brother
