Other counties have many parties in their parliaments. I don't like how this country offers only two choices. Very often the parties seem in cahoots with each other. I wanted to see the reform party get bigger but I never hear anything about it anymore. If the Greens would stop it with the marijuana promotion they could be taken more seriously. Why should someone who is conservative on social issues like abortion feel that they have to vote Republican, when they may in fact want a clean environment? I just don't believe that a two party system is objective enough and I would like to see if others agree.

I recognize that there are already several other political parties in existence. But they all amount to nothing compared to the top two. I'd love the top parties divided up, smaller parties grow and have much more citizen involvement.

I agree completely. I'm often torn because of certain issues i feel strongly about and i have no choice. recently in this borders/immigration debate i felt like we were sold down the river by both parties, and i don't think either of the two parties owns the exclusive rights on corruption. we need more choice...and more control over our govt.

P.S. If nothing else at least one or more other viable parties would keep the other two on their toes and more responsive to their constituents. Too many of these congressmen are growing old and comfortable getting reelected over and over and getting more and more out of touch with Americans everyday.

Actually there are many parties out there... that run in many of the elections....

Some of these parties have even made a little dent into the politcal process....

Here are the problems with "3rd parties"
The biggest problem is a president can win without a majority vote... this happend in 3 out of the last 4 presidential elections:

Bush in '04' was the firest president since Bush Sr won in 88 with a mojoirty....

Clinotn in "92 and in 96' had below 50% of the votes.. same with Bush in "00".

here is the reason why they won with the minority.....
a 3rd party which in therory is a good idea, it actually hurts the people that vote for them.

in 92 and in 96 the 3rd party was Ross Perot... Perot was more of a conservative then a Liberal.. alot of people that voted for Perot are people who were fed up with the republican party. And either did a "protest vote" or actually thought that Perot would win. So the Perot voters would had most likely voted for Bush in his relection campaign.. however they didn't and he lost, and we got clinton,

The same thing happend to Dole with Perot running again in 96.
What hurt gore in 2000 was Nadar. again nadar was more of a leftiest so he took away votes from gore... that hurt gore, and he would have won the elction if it wasn't for Nadar.

What people should do when they are fed up with the two parties.. is to change the party from within.. so If you think Bush is spending too much money on social programs.. too much pork, then as a conservative, you shouldn't run against him, you should join the party, and start wining elections and start wining primaries.... thats how you change the party...

I agree. All political parties should be treated equal. Third parties should be treated no different than the two largest parties. Unfortunately most people don't have a clew as to what is going in politics and when they vote they can only relate to the Democrats and the Republicans. No matter how much campaigning a third party does the majority of voters don't pay any attention and on election day they automatically vote for one of the big two. Ross Perot came the closest to forming a viable third party in 1972. Unfortunately, he eventually made himself appear to be a little nuts and, because he was power hungry, ended up destroying his own party.

Our system does allow for multiple parties, but so far, there hasn't been a major third party to rise in popularity. Most of the smaller parties seem to be one-issue special-interest parties who don't have large public support.

If you consider the mess some other countries are in with multiple special-interest parties fighting for representation and being forced to form coalitions to make their governments work, I think the American system has worked out rather well.

Absolutely! I have proposed the America Constitution Party, which would advocate responsible foreign policy, responsible government spending, and an adherence to the beliefs and goals our Founding Fathers intended in the Constitution and Bil of Rights. There is too much corruption, deceit, and manipulation by the two major parties.

It is what evolved. When the country started, there were no political parties, but they had already started forming when George Washingon was leaving the office. He made a famous quote that a two-party system would cause great harm to the republic.

I most of us would like to see more parties, the two parties are broad they can hardly reach consensus ont heir own issues. Besides, more would get done becuz you have less of a chance for a deadlock or filibuster. The problem is people are lazy, in order to get more parties people would have to be completely fed up and willing to take action but as long as we drive SUV's and can shop at Banana Republic, most will just go with the flow. It sucks it takes tragedy to motvate people in this countyr.

I slightly desire Republicans via fact I watched the Democrats bypass this Obama-care debacle which will bankrupt the country and penalize its electorate for no longer being waiting to purchase scientific wellness coverage. It has pushed up the fee of scientific wellness coverage and the worst is yet to come again via fact medical doctors gets out of the occupation, waits would be longer. i'm against abortion via fact no one has greater intelligence than God and that's a sin united statesa. pays heavily for at some point. Republicans are no longer frightened of gays that's what you have defined them as. I extremely have gay friends and that i in no way frightened of them like i'm spiders and snakes.

I agree. Because of the way our political system is set up for just 2 question and 2 answers, most of our opinions are ignored. I would really love to see a Parliamentary form of government here. With proportional representation, everyone's opinion counts for something.

Well we also have the Libertarian party if you would like more choices. Perhaps this is your calling? Start your own party. You don't always have to follow, you are free to lead should you choose.
