I agree with putting in a separate fence with a locking gate! I have a pool that is right off my back door with a deck that goes right to it. I researched pool alarms but this is the bad thing about them. They go off only when something has already fallen in the pool!
My best advise is to build a fence around the pool adding to what you already have. If the child is small and can't figure out how to work child proof door locks, then get one of those. www.onestepahead has the BEST safety gadgets on the market!

Not sure of brands, but the best thing to do is to put a seperate fence with a locking gate around the pool itself to keep young children from accidently falling in. Also, what if no one was home and someone snuck in and the alarm was not heard, and they drowned? Even though they are tresspassing on your property you are still liable because it IS your property. A friend of mine lost her daughter at age 2 because her baby-sitter fell asleep and she and her baby-sitter's son wandered into the neighbor's yard and they both drowned.
