cats butt heads to show affection and it is a greeting. whenever my sons cat wants in to my sons room he runs in and jumps on my sons bed and head butts him forehead to forehead to show his love and happiness at seeing him. cats also do this to each other whenever my cats shake or way their tails they are usually happy. if tail is switching then they might be aggrivated and you mightwant to steer clear or pay the concequences.

Headbutt, as far as I know, is a mostly gesture of affection. Shaking tails- that depends. If it is slow....they are probably happy....if it is fast and jerky then they are annoyed about something

I have a cat who shakes his tail when he is very excited like when he anticipates being fed (i.e. if I ACCIDENTALLY touch the cat food bag while in the kitchen or pick up a can of cat food)....
He has done it as long as I can remember and it's funny to watch him shake it!

headbutt means that you are accepted as part of their tribe or clan or group. somehow my ex-hubby always would say this he saw it on a PBS show about felines.

My spoiled rotten Siamese head butts me in the morning when I'm still in bed. That is her way of saying "get up you lazy people and let me out to play".
