Nema 4 enclosures are completely water tight and can be subjected to wet area service such as areas that must be hosed down for cleaning.

NEMA 4X enclosures are corrosion resistant as well and are therefore required to bee constructed from material with the corrosion Resistance of 304 stainless steel or plastic.

NEMA-4 is a grade of quality used in the electrical field. I think it stands for National Electrical Manufacturers Association. Nema 1 would be like "not waterproof", Can withstand temps up to 120 degrees, etc NEMA 4 could mean Completely waterproof, up to 100 ft deep, temps up to 500 degrees, hazardous location. Hopefully you get the point. The higher the number the more durable it is in the environment.

NEMA PC Enclosure Types - Type 4 - Computer enclosures constructed for either indoor or outdoor use to provide a degree of protection to personnel against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment; to provide a degree of protection against falling dirt, rain, sleet, snow, windblown dust, splashing water, and hose-directed water; and that will be undamaged by the external formation of ice on the enclosure.

NEMA 4 and Other Rated Products
NEMA 4 is not the only rating available for enclosures in non-hazardous locations. There are several different NEMA ratings for specific enclosure "types", their applications, and the environmental conditions they are designed to protect against. Computer Dynamics offers many industrial flat panel display systems configured for various NEMA ratings, including NEMA 4 type.
