not to mean as an insult, but i am asian -- and in our country, we are offended by people who stare at you for long periods of time. many times i have encountered latino guys staring at me and that makes me uncomfortable. there is a maintenance worker here at my job that stares at me all the time when he stops by, even stands close to me to stare at me. and when i go to a bagel shop close to the place where i work -- the latino guys who work there also stare at me!
the luncheonette next to my job, there is a mexican there who stares at me too! once i've told him to stop staring and he just ridiculed me -- so i stopped going there.
why are they like that?! i am very offended and i don't know what to do anymore. sometimes i just eat alone -- because i really don't like to be stared at. do they think that's sexy? it's repulsive.

ever wonder why the ladies agree with me?

im not saying that people should "bow down" to my culture, but there is a fine line between admiring and being plain rude. if a girl has clearly expressed she doesn't want to be stared at, and you guys just kept staring, of course she would feel defensive. i am not trying to incorporate my culture in this, and i have never offended anybody intentionally, i keep a low profile all the time, minding my own business -- some people are open about their culture, and i respect that. but crossing MY line is disrespectful.

I don't think think Lala is being stereotypical, Pimpslapper. A lot of Latino men DO stare, and I think it's built into the culture to do that to women. Seems like it's the Central Americans who stare the most. Anyway, Lala, being Asian, you may have noticed that some hispanics appear Asian, themselves, due to their heritage, and maybe they think you may have some hispanic blood in you, and they're trying to figure it out. When I look in the mirror, I see a black person, but many staring Indians have thought I was of Indian descent and were a little irritated that I couldn't speak Farci, Hindu, or another of their many languages. Lots of staring people in the Dominican Republic were shocked that I couldn't speak Spanish. I've caught myself staring at people who probably think they're white, and I wondered which grand (or great-grand)parent was black. So much intermingling of races nowadays produces cool results, making people look longer than intended. Next time just ask kindly, "May I help you?" (That's how I find out I simply look like somebody's family member or somthing) Wow! Didn't mean to write a book!

As a lonely guy without a girlfriend. I am trying to make eye contact. I the woman smiles back at me, I say hello. I try not to stare at the boobs, butt or camel toe.
The guys you described have no respect for women. They probably don't care or is normal in their country. In most Latin counties, women are things that must do what they are told. Latin ladies stop me if I am wrong and I apologize if I am.

I'm sorry that this makes you upset. The truth is that in the Hispanic culture it is a sign of disrespect to lose eye contact in a conversation. Also, the amount of personal space that people give in Hispanic culture is less than is expected here. So, in part it is cultural, but it sounds to me like they are just checking you out. I wouldn't worry about it too much. After all it's all the testosterone in their systems.

they must like what they see. latino guys stare at me all the time with a goofy grin and then start speaking in spanish like i'm not gonna catch anything they're saying. they stare because they like my curves...but what annoys me is that they'll stare and then not come talk to you!

they think youre hot. i mean they stare cuz you must look nice. or have a disfuguring disease. in there culture thats a way to attract mates. get used to it. or go back home. this is america and we dont need to bow down to other peoples religions or cultures. next time this happens just politely explain to them that this is rude i nyour culture, maybe thell understand. that is a stereotypical of you to say thats like saying all oriental men a small in the pants. or wait that true my bad.

They might stare at you because something is wrong with you or maybe you look high! Who knows. Why would you think it was all latinos? Are you a bad driver? Are you good at math and terrible in bed? Stereotyping is ignorant and you should feel ashamed to have posted that question.
