It's funny to see a bunch of affiliates for offshore casinos posting here telling you that internet gambling is legal. Of course they're going to say that! :)

Technically, it's illegal, but the US hasn't prosecuted anyone for it, and my guess is that they won't do so anytime soon. The laws can appear somewhat gray, but a strict interpretation of US Code, and legislation like the very old Wire Act, all seem fairly clear in deeming it illegal. (A couple friends who work for the FBI say they won't touch those sites, but then another buddy who works for the police has no issues with it: haha!)

That said, a lot of legislation is pending (some to make it clearly illegal; some to allow for more time to research whether it should be legal). Hard to say where it'll go. The New York Times had a very interesting article yesterday where they discussed the topic. I'd recommend reading it.

In the meantime, if you want to play online poker without any question of legal issues, and you want to play for real money, your options are fairly limited. In California, luckily you can go to the card clubs.

Online, you have a few options. CardPlayer lists a few of them, but the one I know about because my friends play there is BetZip.com. They're based in the US and abide by US laws, so I feel a bit better about trusting them. Additionally, you can play for free there, and win real cash. I think you only have a limited free trial of the service (like 14 days), after which you have to pay a small monthly fee, but at least it's legal and there are real prizes.

I think CardPlayer also listed a brand new site that just started and is also doing video poker, but I can't remember the name off the top of my head.

It's a grey area, but ho one has ever been prosecuted for gambling online. There always seems to be some kind of legislation pending out there, but nothing has come of it yet (aside from Washington State - http://www.katu.com/consumernews/story.asp?ID=86612). IMHO, if the government is trying to get legislation through to make it illegal, it must be legal now.

If you want to play poker online, try Poker 333 (http://www.onlinetexasholdem.ws - top left of page!). These players really suck which means more money for the experienced player (unless your experience is in sucking at poker). They have a good sign-up bonus as well.

For blackjack, I would recommend Mummy's Gold (listed in middle of http://www.highlimitonlinecasinos.com ). Register, play free for an hour, and transfer your winnings to a real money account! If you win, you could get $200 for free! (This offer is unique in that it is a 400% bonus that blackjack players can take advantage of. Most bonuses like this are only for slot players.)

Internet gambling isn't illegal.

Here is the biggest online casino/poker site. They do $250+ million a month in prizes and are well respected by all. You can't go wrong with them. For a list of reasons and even some screenshots, check out the link below. You can play free money first to see if you like it. Then play for real money. They even give $100 bonus for joining a real money account. I suggest you check it out and decide for yourself.

Internet gambling is legal in the USA for now. There is something that is being voted on soon in order to try to make it illegal in the USA, but they haven't passed it yet, and it may never pass.
I enjoy Spin Palace quite often I have never had a problem with deposits or withdrawals. They also give a 300% bonus on your first deposit, so most of the money you wager is theirs, not yours. All Jackpots will give you a 400% bonus on your first deposit.
There are also other sites listed here that will give you money with NO DEPOSIT required.

Think about it this way: who the hell is going to track you down? There are millions of online gamblers in the world, and no one is going to bust you. The odds of that are getting quad aces three times in a row, it's just that unlikely. Good luck.

It is not legal anywhere in the US..None of them are truly safe and you have no recourse if they rip off your credit card
