My friend's Mom has experienced complications from a fall and my friend is with her day and night in the hospital. Does anyone have any suggestions what to bring my Mom or how to support my friend?

Buy her lunch or fix her some. I am sure she is getting tired of the hospital food. You could also watch her mother for her, and let her go get some well needed rest, or even let her do her running around. Offer her some support, give her a hug. All of the above would work.

I did all of these things when my best friend was staying with her dad in the hospital.

Well, you can always bring her her fav magazines or wordsearches, a great book of inspiration like Chicken Soup for the Soul or at stores like Barnes and Noble they probably have sections of books for coping with an illness or maybe even funny hospital stories ... Or maybe get her a journal to write her thoughts down in.... If she has a disc-man or something like that, make her some cds of her favorite music .. I know that when I was in the hospital I loved playing cards, you could get cards or one of those hand-held poker games. Also Health and Beauty stuff like chapstick, lotion ... make a fun little basket w/ maybe flowers or a stuffed animal ... I hope this gives you some ideas! Good luck and I hope the mom is feeling better real soon!

a homecooked lunch or take-out from her favorite place is the best!! i work in trauma icu and the one thing i hear the most complaints about is how tired the families are of having to get food from the cafeteria. Hospitals are on a budget and unfortunately that includes the cafteria-they have a set menu they have to stick to and cycle through the same 10-15 items every month-especially at nite (they usually will have the same thing every week on a certain nite like fish on fridays or chicken on wednesdays). so different food will be a very welcome change. offering to bring her a fresh change of clothes is a nice gesture but most people will go home to shower and change at least once a day. a small radio or cd player w/her favorite music or even a movie-most hospitals have tvs and vcrs on a portable cart that can be brought into a patients room to watch movies. but just showing your friend that you are willing to be there for her will be one of the best ways to support her-it's something she'll never forget.

A small ice chest stocked with some treats or soft drinks. They can get free ice from the ward's pantry. Ear plugs and a "sleep" mask for both. A small battery powered fan; some hospitals won't allow "unecessary" equipment to be plugged in at bedside. A phone card, so they can make long distance calls from the bedside phone. A stack of old National Geographics; looking at the great pictures is good when you are too tired to read or watch TV.

Hi there, it is very nice that you want to support your friend. First I would rexcommend a nice simple card expressing your condolences. Then perhaps a basket of magazines, crossword puzzles, word search, etc. Also what about breakfast bars, juice, water (simple foods with some nutritional value)

Remember its the thought that counts

I really like the previous suggestion of offering to stay with her mom while she gets out for a few hours. She needs time to refresh

Does your friend have a comfortable chair that reclines so she can sleep at night? If you have such a chair, consider lending it to her. A pillow and a warm throw is nice, too; hospitals can get chilly. Nutritious, tasty, homecooked food, along with non-depressing reading material suited to your friend's tastes also help.

Bring your friend a teddy bear to hold on to..and bring her mom a bouquet of flowers. You can get really nice flowers from any grocery store...and pick up a get well balloon if you have enough money. That should do it.

Take her a funny book. I have also really gotten into Sudoku, it's a puzzle, they sell them in grocery and book stores. Also think about a blanket, sometimes the hospitals can get pretty chilly!

Hi. I work in a hospital and I see that bottled water, magazines, and crossword puzzles help a lot. A nice pillow also helps.

A homecooked meal is a good suggestion.
A book and some magazines but most of all just your support.
