Somehow, I don't think you are really an immigrant. It's my guess that you are someone who is against immigrants and are asking the question out of your misguided beliefs as to what most immigrants bring to our nation.
ADDITION:
I can't believe you all. Especially you, Julie. That's just nasty. Number one, this is clearly a conservative making a statement and not asking a question, and number two, they didn't say illegal. That means number three, you're a nasty, nasty bigot.

call a democrat--they will find a way to help you get pretty much anything without even thinking about becoming a citizen.
would you rather become a citizen of the nation you are trying to get benefits from? if not, why not?
do you think this country owes you something just for walking into it, or would you just take advantage of free services, knowing others work hard and have money deducted from their pay so you can get free services?
have you tried this in other countries? were you denied and kicked out?

If you are for real, go back home to where ever you came from!!.Get help in your own country.. We have a hard enough time taking care of our own here, and our welfare is about played out. We have people here in America that are poor or just can't work because of health reasons that our country needs to take care of, people who have paid into the system for years, and deserve it.... Our country can't keep giving handouts to others, when our own are lacking here.

I sure hope not!
I am European, married to an American citizen. We were married 2 years & already had our daughter (who is an American citizen by birth)before I applied to come to the US. Before I even set foot in the country I had to sign some documents stating that I would NOT be entitled to any gov. benefits whatsoever until I had worked for them so I think that if I played (& still am playing)by the rules, EVERYONE else has to do so too!

If you come here LEGALLY, ask your sponsor. Because whoever sponsor you to be here will be paying for it. The government will be demanding payment from your sponsors. So, you should go get a job, earn 40 credits a year for 10 years, then you would be eligible for medicare when when turn 65.
PS: I doubt you are a real legal immigrant.

Are you a legal resident? Did you overstay a visa? Did you dropout of the sky? Are you working here legally? Welfare and medicaid are for those "legal" individuals who have limited means and are unable to afford basic living necessities and health care-not "illegal" squatters whose own countries have abandoned them.

Yes you are! You can go to the welfare office and watch them turn away natives, and you get food stamps and health coverage. Don't worry if you are illegal last I heard you don't have to have a S/S card to get it. You just can't be white.

We don't need anyone else on welfare. Please if you are going to be here find a job and learn to support yourself as we all have to. You would not want us to go to where you come from and get on welfare and have you pay for us, would you?????

DEPENDING on your situation. If you are illegal then no, because you will need certain documents that illegals don't have.... I really don't know because I work hard to support my self instead of living off of welfare.
