There's a lot of different titles to choose from. What is it you want to do? For artwork I would recommend Adobe Illustrator. For photos: Photoshop.

Check out www.adobe.com to get an idea about what it is you want. To help you learn, the Visual Quickstart Guides available at Amazon.com are good.

It's typically best to go with the most recent release. That version is referred to as CS2 for all applications (though many refer to them by their number version)

If you're starting from scratch, I advise you to go to a community college and take a class in graphic design using whatever Adobe software (you didn't specify) you want to learn. If you truly know nothing aboout it, then you'd be way over your head starting from scratch.

Besides, if you take a class, you'll be registered as a student and you will be able to buy Illustrator or Photoshop or whatever for a greatly reduced price.

purchase the software you want to learn , you said you are using this for artwork so I assume you want one of:

Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Fireworks
Adobe Freehand

etc.
