You must go to the doctor to get a prescription for birth control pills. There are many other, over the counter birth control methods but it is best to see you doctor and have help to decide what type of birth control is best for you and your particular situation. Birth control pills are only one method out there and might not be the best one for you. A doctor can help you with all this.

There are a ton of different types of birth control out there on the market. The first one is what you mentioned, a pill. You take it every day and then have a week off where you get your period. If your periods are irregular, it will make you get them on time. Some people really like taking the pill, but others get annoyed by having to take a pill every day.
There is also the patch. You can wear it several different places on your body which would not be noticeable. This is an alternative for people who don't want to take pills.
You can also choose to get the depo - provera shot. It's a shot you get once a month, and you don't have to worry about taking any pills or putting any patches on. Your parents aren't likely to find out you're getting shots every month, so if you're afraid someone would find your patches or your pills, this can be a good alternative.
Some people gain weight on birth control. That is one of the side effects. However, you should take note that everyone is different. Your friend could gain 15 pounds on birth control, and you could lose weight. It all depends on how your body reacts. As I mentioned before, birth control will regulate your period after your body adjusts to it. It also can clear up skin, if you have acne.
You should talk over all these options with your doctor to decide which option is the best for you. They will tell you all this information and more when you go in. Please note that you need to use a backup birth control method after you start your contraceptives, because it takes a while for your body to adjust.
The only birth control method that is 100% effective is abstinence (not having sex). So while all these different contraceptives have very good rates of effectiveness (Depo Provera being the most effective) you CAN still get pregnant, so you might want to consider also using condoms. That's up to you and your partner, of course. Condoms are the only way to protect yourself against STDs, too.
Good luck!

The BC pill will REGULATE your period. It can even make your cramps lessen and shorten your period. You have to go to a doctor to get examined and get a prescription to take to a pharmacy. TONS of brands exists. Over 20 I would say, brands out there but all prescription only in the US.
Also use condoms because if your BF cheats he could give you a STD without you knowing until it is too late. Also have the DR to test you for STDs just to be sure ahead of time that you dont have anything. Also tell your bf to get STD tested by a doctor since he insists you get Birth control! Also you MUST take the pill a full 28 Days (1 month) BEFORE having sex. it will not be effective on new users until after 1 month. Also you cant go on the pill if you smoke (risk of blood clot = death) so stop smoking or dont start. Also if you family has a history of heart problems/ blood clots tell your doctor about that. Ask your parents what your family medical history is.

There are lots of brands on the market. Your first step is going to a women's doctor a gynecologist or your local heatlh department.
They will have to do a pelvic exam then they will talk to you about the many options.
Once you are giving a prescription (at the heath dept. I think they just give you the pills for a small fee) you will start taking one a day.
HERE IS THE IMPORTANT PART! You take one pill every day at the same time each day. If you miss a pill then you need to be safe for the next month. You also need to wait one month after you start taking the pill for them to be effective.
They will make your menstrual cycle come like clockwork...the pill is hormones and for 3 weeks you take diff level of hormones the 4 week is your period. Then it repeats every month.
I commend you and your boyfriend for thinking responsibly before having sex. Remember to always be safe. Most importantly the pill can not protect against STD's.
Make a Dr's appointment and he will explain everything in detail.

There are a a lot of kinds... a shot, nuva ring, pills... You can go to planned parenthood, or you can ask your doctor. It will make your menstral more regular most likely. During your periods the may give you a placebo to take that week, which is included in the 28 day packet (if your taking pills), or they may give you a 21 day packet which you just skip the week of your period. You should just ask for the 28 day because its easier. They will explain how to use them and all that stuff. There are also some bad side effects to birth control... like weight gain, headaches, dizziness, and some other stuff , which they will tell you. It should be his responsilty to help you also with it cuz its just as much for him as it is for you.

Birth control regulates your period..so once you start taking it you will get your period on the same day every month.. when you start the pill there are 3 rows of birth control and the last week is just sugar tablets so that you get your period..when the last of the sugar pills are taken you start a new pack of birth control. its very easy. I am on the brand of pill Estrostep..i like it very much and have not experianced any side effects from it such as weight gain, cellulite or any other side effects of birth control. Good luck!

Your first step is to see your doctor. discuss this with him/her. They will select the best choice of birth control pill for you and discuss it's use and side effects to you. The doctor also can answer all your questions.
