And don't tell me it's just christians, I've seen many answers from 'open-minded' people spreading hate and judging a person's most intimate beliefs as inadequate, simply for not agreeing with them. Why so much hate?

most of the time, a person doesn't even read the entire question before assuming and jumping to conclusions. What's up with that?

julia, that isn't true. I just looked at my last question, and hate came from everywhere, and it was because people misunderstood my question, including you

The comments escalate and then it becomes a cycle of responding to an attack from the other side.
I'm an atheist, and that puts me in a very small minority world-wide. The vast majority of people believe in a higher power of some kind. I don't and never have. I believed in Santa Claus, after all he was down at mall.
But I understand that religion and faith helps people. It gets them through hard times, it makes death a little less scary and tells them that there's more to life than what we see. Some people want or need that. I understand. I don't hate religion, I hate what people DO with religion. How they use it to justify there in tolerances and hatred. And then hide behind God's robe and blame it on him.
Occasionally I've come across some well thought out questions and responses. But you're right, much of the time it just degenerates to atheists calling Christians stupid, and Christians telling atheists they're going to hell.
It can get pretty damn boring, pretty damn quick. Like two children in a sandbox you end up having to separate.

Religious questions and discussions have enraged and inflamed humans to the point in which they have turned enemies into brothers, sons, fathers, and .... you see where this is going? The popular decision was to ban conversations that included religion and politics at public social gatherings.
I really think this category needs to be sub-divided so that people who have a shared belief system can discuss amongst them self. Maybe there could be a debate category, although bash seems more appropriate to what I have seen on here.
In the meantime, when you are feeling "fed up" with it all, maybe you could try a more peaceful category of questions and answers. I do this, and it does work. I also have noticed that there are a few people who do not seem "phased" by all the bashing. Sometimes I peruse their q&a's to see how they seem to stay so calm in the mist of all this quarrelling.

Me-ism - my way or the highway mentality - a lack of worship in Spirit and Truth - pop culture - media - a lack of family structure - and the removal of God as God of all - it's comes before the fall of all great civilizations as a study of history will teach us - it's is sad isn't it.
I don't know that we and I do say we, even realize how we come across as judgmental and hate-filled - when you cannot hear the voice of one speaking we can only base the words on our reflection of how those words must sound - and sometimes they may have actually been spoken with a great deal of love and compassion - however, sometimes it is real obvious they were not! And then you get emails that convince you that what you said was not taken in the Spirit in which you wrote it. But you cannot control how another reads your words, but only how you write them - that's all your accountable for. Some people would take, Good morning how are, as being hateful. Such is the way of man!

It's unfortunately the trend that the world is exhibiting. People claim to be open minded because it sounds like a good thing to be. Then, when someone has a differing opinion their open mindedness goes out the window because they like their opinion better. There is very little tolerance left in this world. No Tolerance policies are everywhere. It's not a coincidence that the whole world would follow and apply it to whatever aspect of life they feel like.

all this hate you see is from 2000 years of supression brought on by christian hypocrits and war mongers that go on and around to people treating them like dirt. i myself have been called a atheist for i dont believe in christianity and that i will burn in hell when i am not the one who is judgemental its the christian fundamentalist rejects who cant accept everyone as equals but have to look down on everyone else with hate for they dont understand why we as pagans and non believers dont like christianity at all. the bible is full of hate and lies as is and you want smart well educated people to accept your beliefs?? if christianity died tomorrow i would be the first person to hand you any thing you wanted in the world but since most christians are closed minded i wont even think about helping a christian you hate what you dont understand or know about. look at the religion of christianity and then take a long hard look in the mirror and you will see no light in your own eyes.

Good question.
The way I see it, most of the judgmentalism and hate is coming from atheists who take pot-shots at religion and at the people who practice religion, especially Christianity.
Go through the messages and count up all the times atheists call believers "stupid" and "ignorant" and "gullible" and what not.
Here's just the latest example: a just-posted question that reads: "How can so many people believe in the fraud that is Jesus?"
See what I mean?

You are right about people answering the question before reading it completely. Sometimes the answers don't even make sense or relate to what the question was!
As far as the haters...they are all over but seem to feel comfortable showing their true colors in this forum. I guess that is the beauty of the USA...freedom of speech. They can spout off all they like...doesn't mean we have to believe it!!

Ignorance... and judging, finger pointing, insecurity... name it. It's been around for centuries and the cause of many a death and war.
Why can't we all just get along?
Someone told me, if you believe it, that if you could see demons you would see many. The opposite is also true in the phrase about the sick needing a doctor. The good also has many hurdles and stumbling blocks to get over.

I think religious topics attract arrogant, selfish, bigoted people because there is no proof for either side. You can make a statement and nobody can challenge it with facts. Sure, many people think they have proof, but nobody truly does. This means that people who really, really like to irritate others can have a field day with this topic. They know religion is important to others and their inflammatory statements can stab them in the gut where it genuinely hurts.
