I STRONGLY suggest you seek for a second opinion. My dad had cancer and he did not seek for a second opinion because the doctor was a big *** and said he didn't need one. My dad is not alive anymore but had he known..i'm sure he would take the steps more carefully. esp if it involves surgery..good luck.

Usually they will do all the noninvasive tests they can before doing and invasive one...which is a biopsy...and a biopsy is the only way to get a definite answer on what this spot is...after you get the results of that then you will know exactly what you have...if you have anything...it could be just a residual from the pneumonia...or it could be an unwanted mass....but usually they will go for chemo and radiation after removing the mass if they can get to it..not necessarily remove part of your lung...unless a large area is involved....Ask to see the test results and xrays ...a radiologist must report on your xray any findings....and as a patient you have the right to get a second opinion...preferably with an oncologist..not a general surgeon....the oncologist will determine what it is and if surgery is needed...

Everything you are saying is pretty much routine when they find a spot on your lung. However, I disagree with the PET scan unless the spot on your lung is confirmed as malignant. The PET scan is to look for tumor in other parts of your body. I would seek a 2nd opinoin. Take all of your films from your XR. Copys of your PET scan, CT scan and lab values with you to the 2nd opinon. Don't take copies of the reports. You want the actual films or disk the CT and PET scans are on. I think maybe your doctor is new and a little green behind the gills. I would hope you would find someone you trust before you engage in any further treatment. Sounds like you are going to end up with an enormous bill. Also, you should see a specialist in pulmunolgy or Pulmunary Medicine. He/she will be able to tell you how to proceed.

If it were me, and a doctor saw a "spot", and wanted to do a biopsy, I would do it. I want to live to see my grandchildren grow up. The best cancer "cure" in many cases is early detection. And if you want to see your test results, ask the doctor to show them to you. Be proactive and assertive. No new doctor is going to be able to "guess" what you want. Read, read, read and be in charge of your own life. There is nothing wrong with a second opinion, but there is no reason you need to put off the biopsy in order to do that.

I stopped reading when I saw that your Dr. got upset at your wanting a second opinion!!
A good Dr. will tell you to get a second opinion if you want to! I have been to a large number of Dr.'s trying to get a diagnosis over the years and I speak from experience. Don't mess around with something as serious as this...get a second and third opinion!!
Medicine is an art as well as a science!!

You have a right to get a straight answer from your doctor. Just ask for it. And since you pay for each and every visit to your doctor, getting a second opinion is also your right and responsibility. It does not matter one bit if he/she gets upset or not. You pay for it and they do not. Do get that second opinion and ask your doctor for the name of a specialist in your area. That will give you the information you need for an informed decision of what to do next when the time comes.

Your xrays are yours. Get a copy and get a second opinion - ABSOLUTELY.
I worked with about 3 dozen very good doctors, but they are all falable on any given day, for one reason or another.
Get a second opinion on whether or not an invasive procedure (biopsy) should be done.
Your doctor should respect you for it. If he/she doesn't you have an arrogant idiot who's ego could cost you your life.
TAKE CONTROL!!!

Get a second opinion. Also, you may want to get to a natural pathetic Dr. cause they will more than likely give you something that works for you instead of kill you.
