Any dogs can get along but some breeds are a bit more territorial and innately aggressive than others. Not all puppies just "get along" with each other. Chihuahuas are very possessive of their families and their houses. It is likely your dog would be threatened by another dog being brought into the house he thinks he "owns." German Shepherds are also possessive and don't always play well with others. If you do get the GS, I suggest you have the two dogs meet in a neutral place that neither think they 'own." Otherwise, your little dog might go after the new one and some nasty situations could arise. Always be careful when selecting a GS. Be sure to go to a reputable breeder and check out the parents of the pup. Make sure they are friendly and that their hips look good. You also want to see the papers for both parents and make sure their is no cross breeding. GS's are very prone to health problems. They're great dogs but you just have to be knowledgeable about your decision.

As long as they are both young you shouldn't have any problems. Keep in mind, as the german shepherd gets bigger, it could accidently hurt the smaller dog by playing too rough, so until it's old enough to understand the chichahua isn't a toy, I'd supervise all time spent together. Most small dogs put up a big dog attitude, so odds are, it will never realize it's true size anyway, and try to take the german shepherd on as often as possible.

Dogs learn to adjust to eachother, especially when both are puppies. I'm sure the German Shepherd will even be the protector of the Chihuahua as they get older. It'll be ok!

I truly have a lady German Shepherd/Collie blend, a lady Chihuahua, a male Chihuahua, and a male Min. Pin. all of them get alongside large. It relies upon on the canine, and how a lot time you position into socializing them. Is your German Shepherd socialized?

I have a chihuahua who is three and I recently got a german shepherd they are both males which is a problem because they both fight over who is the alpha male so I would say not to get two males but other than that they both seem very happy together

ive actually had the mix of a german shepherd and a chihuahua twice. they go good together, but if you introduce the chihuahua a little later then the german shepherd wont take kindly to it for a few days or weeks....eventually theyll be fine

I'm sure they would get along fine...just don't leave them unsupervised because the shepherd puppy is probably much bigger and stronger than the chihuahua and he could hurt him by just playing with him.

If you introduce them young they should do fine. BUt, take caution where you get the GSD from and look at the parents. Make sure they are not aggresive. It would be best to introduce the GSD much younger than the chihuahua. So a sense of dominance is established until size becomes a factor.

I have a Golden Retriever and my sister owns a German Sheperd and both are 4 years old. They get along just fine with my 7 month old Shih Tzu. In the beggining the German Sheperd would growl at my puppy when they puppy would climb on him, but now he just lays there and my puppy can climb all over him and he just licks him.

You could take your Chihuahua to a shelter and have your puppy help you pick out his new best friend. Call ahead first and they will be happy to introduce their pets. You can watch the dogs play together to determine a good match.
