i was a christian but i recently converted to Buddhism. I think its because we respect that everyone is entiltled to their own opinion. You have to understand that Islam is being criticized a great deal over recent years and its the minority who are making their religion look bad.

I dont know about Budhists but hindus do get very angry.
You must do some research about the events that took place at the time of indian partition in 1947. When Millions of muslims were slaughtered by hindus. Also what they are doing in Kashmire.
Also i think Christianity and Islam are the biggest two religions and share many common beliefs & are also spread world wide than Hinduism or Budhists which are limited. So there is more interaction and you know more about them.
So the point is that only extremists get angry when their religion is criticized but christians and muslims are reported more as they are more in no and widely spread.
I also agree with julia that the muslims and christians get angry not when they are criticized but rather insulted.

Your comment makes me wonder just how many times you've actually criticized Buddhism or Hinduism to a Buddhist's or a Hindu's face.
I'm guessing you never have.
If you did criticize Hinduism or Buddhism in the same misconceived and even nasty way that many people criticize Christianity, no doubt there would be Hindus or Buddhists who would get angry at you.
Asking questions about Christianity is one thing. Challenging its beliefs in a mature way is fine too.
The problem is, though, that much of the "criticism" of Christianity that you mention isn't usually mere "criticism" -- it's usually insulting, degrading, and often downright vile.
Why are you surprised, then, if some people might get angry at that?

I don't get mad.
And just because Buddhists and Hindus are more passive does not mean they are not.
You have to look at the culture.
Take the US for instance, everyone has an opinion and they love to express it.
We are a very vocal culture so we seem more abrupt and evasive to others.
Some cultures like Japanese, when they get really really angry, they don't shout and freak out like we do, they get VERY quiet.
So who would seem more angry?
Personally, I don't think anyone should get MAD because another person is criticized, if they really follow the teachings, MOST religions would want us to love each other and show others the truth of the religion by acting in a kind decent way.

I am a Hindu from India and I completely agree with Chaim H and Stacy R. Hinduism and Buddhism originate out of the same principles of Dharma and Karma. We do not believe in converting and forcing our beliefs on other people. We like sharing religious knowledge and not converting people. It does not have to be vs., we hope we can get along. Of fourse we do criticize other people but we are never so aggressive about it. God is not politics that you need to fight about him. Eastern religions believe that religion is a constantly changing process. So, we have the freedom to change. Hindus have reformed their religion many times. However, due to the agression showed by some other faiths we sometimes lose control. After all, we are Human Beings. We should not do that. It's not good Karma(action).

well i have replied to many hateful questions about hindus and buddhists.
I used harsh words but not with hatered. ..
In fact a real Hindu/buddhist knows the Truth...he only smiles when u bash his faith.
Of course there are some young kids, who may get angry on such comments against their faith, but in general I have never seen a hindu or buddhist hating other faiths
We are taught from the childhood to respect the saints and prophets.
Most of the hindus when pass from a mosque or church bow their head in respect
Even if someone may seem to be angry here, hatered and rejection is not our culture
I have kept Jesus's foto near Krishna's in my meditation room.
Some christians and muslims i saw here behaving in a very sane, and logical way without hatered.

Well i am a Hindu, and i get very angry when God or his followers are criticized.
Most of the Hindus are Atheists now a days, they call themselves Hindu but actually they don't believe in God and hence they don't get angry.
If your loving father is insulted wont you get angry ??
Jesus Christ was very angry when he saw people cheating in name of God. there is description of that in Bible.
Krishna was very angry when his devotee Arjuna was on the verge of getting Defeated by Bhisma.
So the teaching in Vedic Literature is that if some one criticize you, you don't get angry. but if some one criticize God or his devotees... then 3 options - Defeat them with Arguments - Leave the Place - And if you can do neither commit Suicide....
If you don't practice this then you are not Hindu but an atheist ..

Buddizm and Jindus are peacefull religions ( not that i belive in either one of them) Christianity stole the idea of trinity from hindu, Muslims is more Peacefull than Christianity but interpret by radicals.
Religion this days ( in the history too) are pure busness . Its not who goes where after life, its who gets political issues worked out.
Notice how much money flows trough religious sects. Vatican has several billions dollars in GODL just in US alone. Muslims are supported by many arabas countries rich ppl. ITs pure busness and has nothing to do with the Idea.
In the line of busnesses there is always a competition. It tight market.
There fore religion and stupidity do exist.

Buddhism and Hinduism don't try to actively convert new members. They're non-expansive religions, whereas Islam and Christianity are much more aggressive. maybe it has to do something with the fact that some (not all) members feel the need to compete with the world.
EDIT:
*LOL* Go Stacy! (down there a few answers)
