oh yes..I am from europe..and in my country the rules are different....18 is the age when a child is called an adult...he has the right to do a lot of things...for an example...the right to marrie or drink...or have a driving licence....the problem is that my mom is overprotectiv and she smothers me with that...I know that she is wiser and i respect that but she doesn't understands that I have my own life

It really depends on your age. If you are living with her at home, you need to try to deal with the situation in a mature manner. This can be difficult if Mother is not mature herself. You don't say how she is difficult. Try to reason with her and prove you can be trusted. Whining and carrying on doesn't impress anyone and makes every situation more difficult.

If you don't live at home and you are of age, legally, if you feel that your Mother is toxic, you don't have to see her if you don't want to. You can limit your visits (so sorry, very busy, working a LOT) and your phone calls. Call display is a miracle of the modern age to NOT have to communicate with someone you'd rather not.

Regardless, you must show respect for your Mother, but you don't have to let her control your life. Only you can live your life, not your Mother.

I'm going thru the very same thing with my daughter of 14. It is so hard for a parent to let go and I'm just getting started with my child. If she wont listen to you then you just have to prove it to her. Get a job or start college. Then when your established in your job/classes your mother will have no choice but to let you go. Good luck to ya

I am a mother and have a mother...I have always found her to be difficult. But I have always loved and learn'd from her. She really does know it all, as I do too now. smiles!
I am sure my teenage daughter thinks I am more than difficult, and thats just fine. Cause I am.
