If the Judeo-Christian faith teaches us that God loves us unconditionally, and wants us to do the same, why do people usually look down on others for their choice of faith that differs from their own? Its almost like a competition, rather than a beautiful way to become closer to God.

It's an incredibly sad state of affairs. I can say that I try my best and I still fall short. I know there are tons however, that don't even try at all. Everyone should at least try.

God's love is not unconditional!!!! To truly experience God's love, biblicaly, we have to come to him on his terms.
1. Come to him through Jesus Christ.
2.Tell others of his great love for them.
3. Act as his voice to the world.
God provided for us while we were yet sinners. But, not accepting his pathway to relationship, causes us to be cut off from him eternally.
What the world perceives as hatred, really is love. It is the desperate warnings of a people who do not want to see someone suffer for an eternity.
The enemy does not want to see this happen, so he creates stumbling blocks everywhere, one of the most dangerous is where the world and spineless theology says"It's OK to be what you are,God loves you anyway.
True Christianity requires change. Those who just take the name, but do not apply it, will probably experience real disappointment.
Seek the truth and live!!!!

People who feel the need to look down on other faiths are afraid. They are clearly not very secure in thier own beliefes otherwise they would not feel threatened by the presence of other ways to believe. As a catholic, I don't care if somone else worships the way I do or believes the way I do, I only car that people believe in something.... something outside themselves....

The consequences of eternity is a compelling factor with faith filled people. We only have this lifetime to choose the right way to God's heaven and it may seem harsh coming from our mouth but it is God himself who told us "there is a way that seems right to a man but the ends thereof is death". Knowing that this world is full of wrong choices breaks the heart of God because it was His plan from the beginning for us to live with Him eternally.
If I might make a pun of your statement-- it is true that we Christians look down on you but it is only because we want you to look up to Him (Jesus)!!

I don't know exactly what those people think. I only knew that God gives us the free will to chose which ever way we like but together with our free will, we should be responsible in our decisions. I believe that the only thing that matters here is FAITH IN GOD.

What God teaches is a goal. We try, or many try to achieve the goal- we all fall short, but get up and try again. We are human and not God- we are on earth not in heaven. With questions like your and true compassion we get closer to God and Heaven!

People that say they believe in unconditional love, and teaches people that unconditional love is what should be given to others, but they are not giving, or showing their true love to others them selves, instead they are judging, & criticizing other peoples beliefs! That means that they are nothing but hipocrits! Unconditional love is not a competition! You either feel it deeply in your heart or you don't! When it comes to showing your true feelings, you should not only be honest with others, you should also be honest with God, and your self as well!!!!

The Bible says there is only one way. No body should be looking down their noses, but if someone is not on the right way, you should speak to them about it humbly and gently. What if you didn't make an effort and that person died in sin and went to hell? I believe we ought to at least try to point people in the right direction.

that's a really good question I personally try really hard not to look down on anyone for any reason I'd surely have to get the plank out of my eye be4 I could ever judge someone else.
regardless of what someone's beliefs are everyone should show respect.

your doing it right now. ok, look at it this way. there are thousands of highways all over the united states. you can take one highway to texas, and i can take another highway to texas. yours may be quicker, have better rest stops, and cheaper gas. mine may have, construction most of the way, dirty rest stops, and expensive gas. but if we both end up in Texas, isn't that what matters. does it really matter if i take the low road and you take the high road. maybe there is something at the dirty rest stop i needed to see, and you didn't and that is why you got the easier route. I am christian, and i just try to take my road. see you in Texas!

I think it's a narrow minded person who makes a big deal about religion. I myself make no distinctions. What you choose for you is fine by me. I'm choosing what's good for me. What makes me happy is that a person actually has a religion, believes and practices it...whatever it may be.
