Oldest known world religion probably has some sort of Judaism belief to it. It's not Christianity. That came about because of Christ. There were religions before then (Christians: Um, Hello?!? What about the Jews? Have you read the Old Testament?). Jesus is the only way to Heaven now, before it happened through sacrifices and atonement and prayer and living a very simple life and a wide variety of other things. It was believed for the longest time that I man could not get into Heaven if he wasn't circumcised.

Well, if the Bible is true, than people believed in God since the beginning of time. But that doesn't make it the oldest religion, as pagans out numbered god-believers. Ive hears Hinduism has been around for quite sometime. And the Cathiloc Church has always been a big one. I guess Im saying I dont know for sure, and not sure anyone does. But if the bible is true, than belief in God would have existed from the start.

And before Jesus, the common belief is that the people who died were judged according to their works, as they did not have forgivness, so they had to pray, and make sacrifices, and be good, to get into heaven before Christ.

Another belief is that noone has yet entered Heaven, they are all asleep in Christ, and will be judged with the rest of us, and for them, again, based on their works.

I just think it's funny that I knew the first answer I would see on here was Christianity before I even got the chance to look.

There isn't an easy answer to this question because nobody is really sure where religion originated exactly; most agree that the first organized religion was Hindu-Aryanism.

Also, many disagree on what happens to those who didn't or don't have the chance to experience Christianity.

A) Though we know very little about it as they had no writing, we're certain that Homo Neanderthalensis had SOME sort of religious belief system. They buried their dead ritualistically, with household goods, with flowers and daubed with red ochre, a symbol of the blood of life, indicating a belief in an afterlife. And the oldest known of these burials is in excess of 100,000 years. Whatever and however they believed, they DID apparently believe. And practice their beliefs and THAT is religion.

B) Jesus is God. God is eternal, therefore Jesus is eternal. Everything God does, He does in eternity, therefore everything Jesus does (ie. saving souls) is done in eternity. When people move from time into eternity, ie die, they meet Jesus. They accept Him and go Home with Him to the Father, or they reject Him and go to hell, which is by definition, the place where God is least comprehensible to a person.

Disclosure: I am not a Christian or Jew.

Adam is not a Jew, even though he appears first thing in the Torah. However the first Jew is recognized as Abraham - one of Jesus' ancestors

Jews are supposedly "the chosen people" and have always gone to heaven, according to Jews and Christians alike.

Christians go to heaven if they beleive in Christ, according to Christians.

Now here is where it gets tricky:

Suppose a Christian converts to Judiasm -- As a Christian they turned their back on Christ, but now are they a member of the "chosen people". Do they still go to heaven? Is it the same heaven?

My Wife converted to Judiasm from Christianity. My Mother (a devout Christian) beleives that my Wife will go to hell.

When my Wife converted, our daughter was about 2 years old, therefore my Daughter converted as well, even though she was not christened.

Now my Mom think that my daughter will go to hell too.

Clear enough?

The oldest religion is the Cult of Mother Earth, monotheist of course.
That was the religion of the ancient human being, call him/her Neanderthal.
That was destroyed by the Anunaki, and reintroduced by them in other forms of religion as Mother nature, or Holy mother as used by a big portion of people today.
Jesus is not the only way to heaven, your deeds are.

I don't think anyone really knows. The Bible does tell us that God has made Himself known to all man through His creation since the beginning. That leads me to believe that all those other religions had an encounter at some time with God or the bible is wrong. I believe the Bible is infallible-so i believe everyone either gets or has had a chance to choose.

I suspect te oldest religion is Narcissism, practiced by the first male who believed he was the highest form of life to ever walk the earth. The religion continues to be practiced today by such creatures as George Bush, Ted Kennedy, Jerry Falwell, Tom Cruise, Rush Limbaugh nd numerous others. It crosses all known political, economic and religious affilliation boundaries.
