what things?

Things come in groups of all numbers, but humans have placed symbolic significance upon certain numbers for any variety of reasons. One signifies unity, singularity, exclusiveness, two usually denotes a duality of polar opposites (black/white, cold/hot, good/evil, etc.), and so forth. Groups of three have often been ascribed as a significant number of related objects, or different aspects of the same thing (think Holy Trinity in Christian theology) The reasons depend on the culture you're talking about -- in Chinese culture, three is considered lucky because the word also sounds like the word for "alive." Numerology makes use of the fact that in base-10 mathematics, any number is divisible by three if the sum of its digits is divisible by three, so you can ascribe all sorts of meaning to anything that fits this rule. As a small prime number, three is also simple and convenient -- imagine the logistical nightmare if you needed twenty two witches to form a coven -- so was chosen by many early societies as a simple number around which whole systems of belief were formed. And a number of cultures have ascribed significance to the triangle as a symbol in their beliefs, which naturally leads one to find significance in three-ness everywhere you look.

If you believe that "bad things happen in groups of three," then every time a bad thing happens, you will look for two more things. When they happen, you will say, "See? It's true!" What you don't notice is that life is full of bad things happening to everyone, all the time. You might see a string of accidents, deaths, and crimes all at once, but you will pay attention only to the first three that you happen to notice. In other words, it is a self-fulfilling prophecy. The same is true, of course, for good things.

Well, it's because we have four centers of energy transferrence in humanity at the moment (composed of male, female, right, left brain). When you think something, it travels through the other three centers and manifests for the most part. Watch more things come in fours as we evolve.

I think it all starts with GOD, you know the Trinity. And then it trickled down from there, I am a nursing major and almost everything in the human body comes in threes. I think that it is something that is inevitable.
