There used to be a song called "Shop Around" that talked about finding a mate like shopping in a store.
-Get a bargain
-Don't be fooled by the first one
-Pretty girls (guys) come a dime a dozen
-Find one that will give you true lovin'
So in a way, I suppose it is.

Well hopefully isn't not. After all, people are more important and more fragile than goods in a store. Now if you would like to shop around before you settle on a person to commit to or if you just like to shop around and not commit to no one, that's fine just as long as everyone knows where you stand.
It's easier to buy a shirt on a whim and then take it back because it doesn't look the same when you get it home than it is to do the same with a person. That shirt is not going to come back and try to kill you. :-)
