I knew a guy who worked in an operating room and there were issues of using unsterilized equipment; for example there was not time to fully autoclave surgical instruments between surgeries because they were scheduled too close and they didn't buy another one of the instrument.

I think respect is also an issue, ie people joking around during surgery when there is an unconscious person present; how much is reasonable?

If you are a surgeon and you run into something you think needs to be done, but the patient hasn't given permission, then what should you do? The surgeon will always be making decisions that affect the remainder of the life of the person (how much of the brain or bowel to take out, etc.) Or balancing risk and time against possible functionality in the future.

I think there are sleep-deprivation issues with medical personnel, also.

Who is really doing the surgery, the surgeon or a medical student? is the surgeon really there supervising?
