My 7 year old made a stepping stone as a 4-H project for the fair. She is unhappy with how it turned out. Any ideas of other things she could make and enter instead? She has already done a picture using oil pastels. Thanks!!

Do a nature walk with her and find interesting leaves or fern...just one or two large pieces is more than enough. Press them in a flower press or between 2 pieces of tissue paper in between 2 large books, then put them in a frame under glass with a mat.

Let her decorate the mat with flowers that were also pressed, like petunias or blossoms. Then she can use bark to decorate the frame itself and have something really unusual and fun.

The beauty is that she can move the pieces around all she wants before putting the glass on....there's no glue or anything, so "fixing" it is a piece of cake.

Building birdhouses is easy and strait forward. Sometimes you can get kits of basic wood with all the items you need, then you can decorate. A great place to go to look for outdoorsy 4H type projects is at the Boy Scout stores. They come in kits for the most part, or have books full of projects. Good luck!!

frist off i would like to say that having her in 4-H is wonderful. i am 16 and have been in it since i was 5.

now what state are you in? i would do a art project on some thing that the state is famous for. i live in NC, so one time i did the write flyer as a art project. one time i did models of the lighthouses in NC. or you could do some thing with the 4-H symbol. like a stain glass clover. this was VERY HARD and i dont recomend it for her, but the last thing i did was a model of a indain villege out of pasta. it took me 3 months of every day after school putting on, verry carefuly, each peice of spagitty ( i know my spelling is bad). sadly it did not win the compition i entered, but i am going to put it in the fair this year...

I along long yime ago was in 4H We learned how to bake a cake feom scratch, but first we had to learn how to measure everything first. We learned how to sew handy aprons; how to make a gatheredskirt; bird houses.
