I have been on effexor for about 4 years now but my doctor increased the dose back in Feb to 225 mg a day because I was really have a bad time. I was in the hospital for 4 days after a suicide attempt. I honestly forget to eat because I dont get the hunger pangs like you are supposed to. I don't really mind the weight loss I was just kind of hoping its normal and not anything else that may be happening with me.

I also take effexor, and have had a dramatic decrease in my appetite as well. If you look at the medication guide for Effexor, loss of appetite is one of the biggest side effects of the medication. Many antidepressants have this side effect. Which I don't mind at all, I need to lose weight anyway so it's really convenient for me! :-)

Don't know about the appetite issue, but Effexor is a very difficult drug to go off of with side effects. It is important to research these prior to going on high doses, and to discuss ramping off slowly if you plan to stop taking this medication.

Lucky you.(sarcasm) Effxor just made me tired, and crazy.

Sometimes the side effects wear off in a month or so. Tell your doctor. Untill then, if your afraid of loosing too much weight start drinking those meal shakes. I was on some medication that made me stop eating, but those side effects wore off in about 2 weeks. I just had meal replacement bars and meal shakes.
Now I'm on Celexia, and Its working much better.

I am on a diet and trying to lose weight. What you should do is eat a healthy breakfast like whole grain toast OR yogurt and apples OR fruit salad if you have no time. For lunch you should eat: Vegetables and Grilled chicken OR whatever you like but in really small portions. For dinner: i usually have salad because i have a big lunch. For snacks you could eat fruits, carrots, celery, cottage cheese, Dannon light and fit yogurt. Eat alotof water and do alteast half hour of excersise. Like bike ride, jogging, swimming. I am not allowed to go outside and workout alone so i just climb stairs ALOT and do crunches, pushups, situps, and so on. If you pig out like i do sometimes... Dont feel guilty it happens. Just workout 10 minutes extra for the amount you ate. Believe you can do it its just a matter of time.. I have lost alot of weight and feel good... Treat yourself once a week so you wont crave it much. If eating out go to Subway: Get whole grain bread, grilled chicken, and fill it up with vegetables.... Dont drink soda and bad juices... Trust me if your a daily soda drinker dont drink it for a month and feel and see the difference. I hope i helped...!

If you havent taken the medication for at least a month regularly it could just be an initial side effect
