I do wholly agree with you.
Although I respect others' beliefs I feel that being an atheist is too stupid an act for a sound minded human being to carry out.
Hats off to you to pointing out this fact.
Belief in atheism only suggests that man can do whatsoever he pleases in this world - since there is no hereafter.
Of course there are people in all religions that do evils - but at the back of their minds they know they are to be accountable for whatever deeds they did commit in this world.

People in a state of ignorance invest all their hopes and dreams in an afterlife, the existence of which they can never prove, and forget to focus on the here-and-now, which is real. However, the attachment they form for this imaginary afterlife often turns into an unbridled ambition. At this point, fortune, fame or status cease to satisfy their ignorant, afterworldly whims and desires. For them, success and prosperity only engender further ambition and greed rather than induce a peaceful state of mind, and they stop at nothing to acheive what they hope will be a better reward from their skydaddy.
Look, the only way that life will improve for people is if we focus on what we can change in THIS WORLD. Unless you have some tangible, testable, repeatable proof that there is such a thing as an afterlife--and that YOUR version of it is correct while everyone else's is wrong--then it must be assumed that this life is all we have. As such, we all need to make the most of it, try and make life a little better for those around us, and not put all our energy, time, and money into that which the human imagination can conjure up. If you are going to do good, do it now, because you can't do anything once you're dead.

Your false assertion that atheists are materialistic and only interested in unbridled ambition is laughable. Most atheists/agnostic/nonreligious people are against not only the conservative nature of religion, but also it's hierarchical structure.
I can only speak for myself, but I think atheism (or use 'spiritual' anarchism if that sounds better) is a rejection of self absorbed philosophies of christianity, capitalism and fascism.
I reject completely the idea that the way to happiness is through gaining more and more. Fame is an illusion. Fortune is finite. Status is a man made construction.
It is in fact, the 'traditional' ideals of the Judeo-Christian Capital-Fascists beast that instills the idea that greed is good. The idea of raping and plundering the earth for human use is an idea straight out of the book of Genesis. The 'ideal' that is pushed by 'The Belief', is to conquer, pillage and take from any newly discovered people or place in the name of religion or political ideology. History is full of examples of this.
Therefore your premise is bogus. You should stop projecting your own belief system's philosophy onto others.

You are sorely misinformed, my friend....
Religious people are the ones who think that they can do whatever they want to satisfy their 'worldly whims and desires' because religion provides for FORGIVENESS....not from those who a person has wronged....from an IMAGINARY BEING! LOL! Imagine cheating on your wife....then apologizing to your grandfather! Think that will make your wife feel better?
Atheism does not in any way provide for such an easy way out, so atheists are always very conscious of the fact that the only people who can forgive them are the very people they have wronged....and this is not always guaranteed, either. For this reason, athiests, by and large, lead a FAR more ethical and moral existence than religious types. The guilt can't be removed by simply going home and talking to yourself about it!

"For them success and prosperity only engender further ambition and greed rather than induce a peaceful state of mind."
I agree with this greed will make the world a worse place, but do you have evidence of any of the other stuff you said?

I'm an atheist. My life is not troubled or anguished. I am healthy and happy. I have no ambition. I am not looking for fame, fortune or status. I am a good person who is happy with who I am and what I have. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I am a better person than many claiming to be 'christians'. I am extremely honest. I'm not racist or bigoted. And I'm not hypocritical. You are sadly misinformed about what atheism is and who we are.

you know, I get really tired of some people labeling all Christians as being this or that. I am forever getting lumped in with the "right" wing side of the Christian fence. I really hate it and find it to be more insulting than almost anything I ever deal with.
I bet the people you're calling ignorant feel the same way I do. People like you make us all look stupid and ugly.

What makes you think I don't believe in the hereafter? There are more ways than one to believe in it. I happen to be spiritual, I just don't believe in "God," persay. I have no interest in fame, fortune or status, either. What interests me is raising my children to be productive members of society who care about all of humanity and what is here on this earth that needs our attention. NOT to worry about what happens after this life. We ARE here for a reason, and I don't think that reason is to worry what will happen to us after we die. I'd rather my kids spend their lives helping to make this world a little better place to live. To live their lives to the best of their abilities and make a difference in someway.
You certainly are a narrow-minded little person.

Well, let see... Roughly 75% of the American population is Christian, and interestingly enough, Christians occupy about 75% of our prison population. However, Atheists occupy only about 10% of the nation and only take up about 0.2% of the prison populous. Kinda makes you want to rethink your question about who spends there lives in trouble and anguish.
The only thing that interferes with my peaceful state of mind is putting up with those who further outdated religious dogma.

To these people, trouble & anguish is their religon. They seek outh the negative side of anything and everything and accentuate it. If there is nothing negative going on, they will seet it out or make up some negativeity. Anger to them, is like happiness to us. And even if they become "happy" it is usually at the expense of others. I'ts sad that people have to live their lives filled with such anger and hate, but that is their choice.
