I have searched and searched for the right religion. I've compared religions, ive tried everything! Born and raised a lutheran I could no longer believe my religion had anything over the others. I found myself "going through the motions". I've come to the conclusion that is I were born in a nation with a different religion that would of been the religion I was following. I believe there is a God. I ask those of all religions to tell why they are what religion they are? Was it because you were born and raised in that religion? Or because your God found you? Please be as truthful and detailed as possible. I am open for anything. Scientology, Christian, Buddist, Satanist, etc... WHy did you choose your religion?

Its all about Faith.

I was not born into any religion, both of my parents always talked about God to me as a child, usually to their benefit, like " God says " Honor thy Father and Mother". As a kid my babysitter took me to Jehova Witnesses gatherings, I went with that family every other day for about 3 or 4 years, however i never believed in thier teachings. I fell asleep everytime i went. When I got a bit older, I remember my parents taking me a few times to a pentacostal church, the amazing thing about that is that to this day i still remember a little hym that we sang in sunday school. I was about 8 years old when I stopped listening to the word, or visiting churches. My Mom and Dad were both pretty much on their own about that, they never went to church, they never talked about God. My mom would read the bible every once in a while, but she never did anything to demonstrate any change. My dad was an alcoholic, and us kids, were just kids.

Last year my dad got saved, unfortunately my mom and him had already divorced, but my dad got saved, and i noticed the biggest change in him, he was no longer violent, he was no longer drinking, he was no longer smoking, no longer wasting his money, he was no longer a demanding person from me. I began visiting the church he attendent and I came to Christ within a month of visiting. Honestly the day i accepted Christ, I was preparing my speech to reject the Lord. But God is bigger than that. I belong to an Apostolic Church, there is a lot of discipline and rules involved, but I think that what I enjoy about it. That it is something that changes you, we have prayer services almost everyday of the week and have regular services on the weekend. I have gotten to know God on a personal basis, he has done miracles in my life and in the lives of other members right before my eyes.

I never believed in Catholic Faith, buddist or anything else, simply because that wasn't my place. I think living in the united states we are free to worship what ever we want, and If I would have wanted i would have visited other churches when I was younger and would of known that those other religions were not for me.

Religion's should not be found on basis of Statistics and strategies. Faith is found when the church you go to practices what they preach, when you read that Scriptures and it all makes sense to you. The Holy Spirit moves with in you and tells you right from wrong.

Im a am not religious I just love Jesus. I read my bible and I go to a christian(non-denominational) church. I choose this because I have seen the love of Jesus. He first loved me for one. Being a christian is the only "religion" that you dont have to earn your way to heaven. I have tried explaining faith. My life is a living miracle. I am the women I am today because of God. I should of been dead a long time ago, more then once. I am 100% sure more then anything with no doubt that this is real. Heaven, hell, Jesus, true love. I never needed proof. Since I was 10 yrs old I accepted Jesus in my heart. The road hasnt been easy but I couldnt imagine living without knowing God.My question never was are you real it was God were are you? come to find otu he was there all aong carrying me through all the trials and tribulations. We all search for something a fullfillment. That emptiness is for God. He is the one and only. Jesus is the way the truth and the life.

Wow, bless your heart. I think you are in a good place. You are questioning. No offense, but being raised Lutheran you may be too intelligent. Most Protestants and Catholic suffer from this. You started in the right "religion", but just in the wrong faction. Luther rightly protested Catholicism, but he buckled under pressure ans recanted. So Lutheran is a lot like Catholic. Most parishioners die as unbelievers-sad. If you are in the USA you have some very good options, if you live in Europe I think its hopeless. There are several good churches to attend and learn from. You do not have to join. Make that decision much later. The largest group of good churches would be Southern Baptist, then American Baptist, then Calvary Chapel, maybe some independent Pentecostal (caution). The main thing is that the church teaches the Bible as infallible. Most churches have become too modern, especially the ones that attract our more intelligent culture. Stay away from anything that is not christian. And remember Catholic, Episcopal, Anglican, Lutheran-these types are similar-and useless to a person who seeks God. Try some I mentioned, try them more that once, move around, find some people you can trust. Hang in there, if you are looking for God-he is waiting for you. God bless you.

I am a deist.

I would recommend reading the book:
A History of God: The 4,000-Year Quest of Judaism, Christianity and Islam by Karen Armstrong.

I think she was a one time a Catholic nun, but had some misgivings and began to study monotheist religions in a search for the right religion in her mind. She is now considered an expert on religion and probably controversial or is that inherent when discussing religion? You will enjoy the book.

Books by Bishop John Shelby Spong are pretty interesting also. They give another view of religion.

I believe you are sincere in your asking.

If it takes you searching to find a religion, maybe you do not "belong" to a certain religion. Maybe you are agnostic. I was raised not really religiously, but it was always assumed there is a God. Only since the age of about 13 have I questioned this assumption. Now 16, I feel that I am able to decide on my own. I am agnostic. I do not practice a set religion, but I do not believe in God's non-existence. The way I see it is that if I am "supposed" to be a certain religion, I'll find that out in due time.

Maybe you should stop searching and start living your life. Live by your own morals, your own ethics, and your own standards. If you are meant to follow a religion, it will come to you in due time.

My mother and father were Jewish, however, after searching most of my life for a meaningful faith I decided that I would not have a religion. I believe in God as the Divine Power but I am a scientist and I also believe in the laws of science. God made science. He made the solar system. He made all things. How can I believe in God and still be a scientist? Easy. I believe in evolution, but made it happen? Who was the creating force behind it? God. Who made the Big Bang? God. I could go on for hours on the subject but I won't bore you. When I studied comparative anatomy in college I was amazed at the complexity of various forms of life. I never doubted for a minute that God had made them. Even the great mind of Einstein believed in a Supreme Being. If it is good enough for Albert, then it is good enough for me.

I was not raised in a chrsitian home far from it my dad drank from the time I was small till I was in my 30's. I would have to say God found me. I had tried everything to have peace drugs sex rock and roll was my life and I was so miserable. I even tried different churches. I remember I used to go to a baptist church about 4 blocks away and the preacher at the time preached every sunday on hell fire I was at the alter every week terrified I'd go to sleep and end up in hell.
I was 31 before John 3:16 became real to me I couldn't fathom God loving me I had always heard such negativity but never about His unconditional love. and when I did that was it for me.
For the first time in my life someone loved me for me and it didn't matter what I'd done and I'd done some pretty horriffic thiings including at one time hating God and all thru the junk in my life He loved me. I've been walking with God for 15 years now and wouldn't trade my life for anything.
(sorry this is so long I pray it helps though)
May God bless u and guide u in all truth.

I have long sought the truth and while I believe that the truth has been stretched a little regarding the new testement; the Bible is the inspired word of God: anyone who looks at the law of life and says "that isnt for me" or " This part doesnt apply to me", doesnt LOVE God Or KNOW God. GOD IS HOLY!
The only thing in the bible that doesnt apply to all people alive today are the references to temple worship because there is no jewish temple anymore.

I was raised pentecostal and now I am a messianic believer in Yeshua. I found no POWER Of God or truth in the pentecostal church. I obey the Torrah because I love God, not to earn my salvation.

What else is there when u r out of luck? You choose a religion cus you want to be safe. You want to be properous, enlightened, blessed, so on and so on. So, its a gd thing to have or belong to a gp of religion. It doesn't matter if one does not take on his supposedly intended religion. What matters is the amount of faith u put in. Whatever ur pick is be it Scientology, Christian, Buddist, even Satanist. One can always be 'converted' . No one says you r only entited to be tied to one single practise or belief. Its our own freewill decision. I would say just take ur time n pick one u most comfortable on. But don't keep switching frm one to another!

What a beautiful question! I was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons). That's the church that I grew up in, but it is also the one that I chose. I chose it because when I was at a time in my life when I felt all alone, and lost and didn't know where to turn, I turned to the Bible and the Book of Mormon and prayer. That's where I found peace and I found the answers I was looking for, and I received a testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon and my church. There have been other times since then where the circumstances of my life have left me feeling alone and scared, but I have found that I am never alone b/c the Savior is always with me, especially during my most difficult trials. I hope you are able to find the same feeling of peace that I discovered! I will pray for you!
