I've been asked to serve as a witness at a quickie ceremony at the local jail (the bride is a Deputy and thought it would be cute.) (Plus, the couple is putting all their money in a new house and they don't care about a lavish affair.) She has asked me and another friend of ours to serve as witnessees. The ceremony includes my good friend (the Bride) and her fiance who I have never met. What are my responsibilities with this type of ceremony, besides signing my name? Any ideas on a cute gift.

A funny gift would be soap on a rope.
Otherwise,, just a normal wedding gift.
All you will do is stand there while they do the ceremony and then sign off the papers.

Handcuffs, obviously. Sounds like you really shouldn't have too much to worry about. Quickie ceremony, they don't want lavish, so just show up (don't wear an orange jumpsuit), sign the form, give her a big hug and slip her the cuffs.

You need to talk to her about this. See what she is wanting from you and your friend. Even if she wants just a small wedding she might not want to miss out on some of the other things like the bridal shower. I dont think I or anyone else can tell you what she is expecting from you guys.

When I got married my husband works in the police department adn I had made him a special cake for our wedding. I made it look like a badge and with our last name on top of it.. our wedding date as the badge number and our first names and two rings inside of each other. and it looked soo cute.

as the responsibilties,i think you would just serve as you were like a bridesmaid in another wedding.. afterwards sign your name. But tell her good luck.. congrats.

A cake with a file baked into it. Or just a file. Signing you name is your only responsibility as the witness.
