when we had my neices first birthday party we just had a plate of diffrent vegetables and dip along with some cold cuts and a couple of pizzas. it was very easy to make and clean up which is great when you have a bunch of little kids running around. for the parents we got a whole bunch of little wraps from costco which worked out well and we had a lil bbq action going with hot dogs and burgers and the big hit with the parents was chicken kebabs wrapped with baken. you take the chicken breastes and cut it up into cubes and wrap the individual peaces with small strips of bacon and then pass them through the skewer. put em on the grill for a lil while turning frequently to avoid wrapping the bacon. i dont know how many people your having or the situation but everything worked out great in the end with us.
good luck

Make finger sandwiches and cut them out with cookie cutters for different shapes. Do the same with finger jello. serve crackers and cheese ball or dips. Animal crackers coated with icing. For the adults, chicken fingers with honey mustard, bbq, or ranch dips, swedish meatballs, or little smokies. Cake and ice cream of course. They don't need a full meal, just a snack. Keep it simple.

Just have their regular food, ask the moms. Not to downplay a first birthday party, but at one year old, no need to saturate them with junk food. It's not about the food, it's about the fun & friends.
