Interesting question...
We all feel that we should achieve something in our lives, but it is not an idea we were born with.
Look at the people around you, they are going nowhere. We are all doing what we can, but we aren't going anywhere.
Everything is just what it is & we should join an activity because we want to join in, not because we think we will achieve anything.
In saying that, how can anyone be happy if they only work to achieve?
This is the message I recieve from Christains that they are working to achieve a place in heaven and one has to wonder if they are truely happy. Seems kind of selfish to me.

Real Happiness means that which will not Cause Suffering in the future.
Its not that you enjoy now and because of this enjoyment you suffer in the future. No that is not Real Happiness. That is Flickering Happiness or Suffering in disguise.
Just like you take Drugs, you may feel Happiness, but that is actually Suffering in disguise of happiness.
Now unless you know the Reality(that which is Real), how will you be able to able to distinguish which act will give happiness and which act will give suffering in future?
Example: to know the effect of Intoxication is also knowledge of Reality.
In Absolute sense, our this life is also not Happiness. Because it ends in Old age and Death. Bhagavad Gita States that there is birth again and thus suffering of this life continues.
The Knowledge of Reality is that we are Spirit Souls and not this Body. We are children of God and have eternal existence as the Father. So to prepare for Eternal Existence that will Give Eternal Happiness is an act of Real Happiness.
Hope this explains

I don't buy into the whole ignorance is bliss thing. Ignorance is stagnation and mental death. It might be more comfortable, but does that make you happier?
Say for example you live in a dystopian society. You don't pay much attention, just listen to what Big Brother tells you. You don't wonder why things are a certain way, why your neighbors keep disappearing, etc. You are still being ground down to nothing, just because you are ignorant of why this is happening to you, does that make you any happier?
Finding new information out makes me happy, personally. The more I know the less I feel like a slave.

1. The knowledge of reality make you realize that all things are impermanent. This will make you easier to let go and live with light-hearted.
2. The knowledge of reality make you realize that God never leave you and can be source of comfort all times even in the darkest moment.

It's an inverse relationship.
The less knowledge of reality of have, or are blind to, the happier you are.

My reality is accepting things as they are and dealing and living with them accordingly. Living in a fantasy world will always disappoint you. Therefore creating saddness.

I know God is alive, I know God has saved me from wrath, I know I will spend eternity in Heaven, not because I'm good enough, but because Jesus paid my way. Happiness is knowing where you're going!
