It all depends on how many children you watch, their ages, and how much time you watch them for. In addition, different areas of the country get different rates.

Plus before you can watch them you need to get licensed.

The amount you earn varies greatly, depending on your location and the type of job you select. If you choose to be a child care aide at a daycare center, you typically earn anywhere from minimum wage to $10+. Teachers at a daycare center may earn a bit more. If you have previous childcare experience, becoming a nanny may be the best option. Look around in your area for nanny agencies. That wage depends on the family's income, number of children, and hours (often 45-50 for a full-time position). Keep in mind however that nanny jobs do not always guarentee a full hour of lunch though!

In child care you're not talking a lot of money - about £10k as a child minder or nursery-nurse. Become a fully qualified 'Nanny' and the wages and perks are endless. A well established (with references), trained and upto date London nanny can earn more than £30k (less if you 'live-in'). There are also travelling opportunities if your employer moves or travels/lives abroad.

It is important to understand the difference between a 'child minder' and a 'nanny'. Both in deciding what route you wish to take and as a parent.

Not all that much but most people who go into child care do so because they love kids and teaching. I know teachers should be paid more ( I am one) but if they were paid what they were worth people may go into teaching just for the money. If you truly love kids, don't worry about the money, just do what you love. I am thankful every day to be able to do what I do. How many people can say that about their jobs?

Do you mean in a daycare center? Or your house? At a daycare, it could be about $200/week. In your home, I would say, depending on how many kids, $125-200/week. The reason I say $125, is because most people don't claim it on taxes. As a private nanny, $250-450/week depending on experience and the family you work for.

Working in a nursery/kindergarten is one of the most underappreciated jobs ever. Financially speaking anyway. In the UK you can expect to earn somewhere between £11,000 and £14,000, and sometimes it's less. If you own your own nursery/kindergarten it's a lot better, but the work is that much harder, lots of admin, and it can be tricky when parents aren't reliably paying etc.

Lots of money if you own a Daycare center. Not so much if you are just the poor smuck getting paid by the hour to watch kids.
