Ooh how sexy. (Said total dead-pan.) Yeh, I can do that. Some people can't. Some people have tongue skills. Some don't. Sexy.

You are not a freak - in fact you have more control over your vocal chords than the people who say they can't. It's a bit like "wiggling" your ears... some can do it, som can't. In case of the rolling Rrrrr, it's often conditioned by learning a certain dialect in your language. In languages such as Dutch or Swiss, it would be hard to articulate without the rolling.

Well what is commonly called a rolling r is known in the speech trade as a Uvular R. How do I know this? They forced me into dpeech thearapy because I have a pronounced one (even for Scotland). They used to use me as an example in my acting college. Ooh I felt special. It can also come from the shape of your mouth particularly where your teeth sit (but that's the same for all sounds really). Personally I feel it's better to roll your r's rather than not pronounce them at all.

Good for you honey! But so can that thing from beyond the grave. Can you smell the stench? It goes RRRRR! and then it strikes. It feeds only on a pulsating heart just wrenched from the rib cage. Crazy? I know.

I can, but it took a bit of getting used to. I think anyone can with enough practice. Some people are embarrassed to try so they quit. I think for some, it takes a LOT of practice. I think it's most difficult to roll one r, like in the name Maribel. Bigger rolls, like carro are easier.
Boston, you are funny. I wonder if anyone in Boston can roll r's. That's curious.

I can do it perfectly. I married a South African [basically of Dutch origion] and in their language [Affrikans] they roll them very articulately. Much more than us. But yea, I can do it and they make me feel like a freek too. Lol.

And to that person who said it is gentic it isn't...
Being able to roll your tounge into a U is genetic but, rolling your R's is just a learned muscle.

I CANNOT roll my rrrr's and felt like a freak in Spanish class when seemingly everyone else could. I guess one man's oddity is another man's strength.

Yes I can now, but it took me years to learn how to do it and I still don't do it properly. A bit of a drawback as I'm training to sing opera...
