It takes between 8-10 days to conceive after intercourse. If it has not been long enough then you may have a false negative. You need to give yourself about two weeks before a pregnancy test, even an early detection kit, will be accurate.

Testing a week early is a waste of time and money! Some tests claim to work 4 days before a missed period, but that claim mostly succeeds in getting women to buy more pregnancy tests.
Try testing when you are a week to ten days late, do it first thing in the morning when the concentrations of pregnancy hormones in your urine are highest. Also, expect the line in the control window to be a very light pink line. Sometimes you can barely see it, but it's there.
It is hard to be patient, but to expect to succeed after a week is a bit extreme. In fact, it takes 24 hours for the fertilization of the egg to happen. Then, it takes a few days for the fertilzed egg to travel to the womb, then it takes a few more days for the egg to implant itself in uteral lining. Then, the placenta doesn't start to form until two weeks after fertilization and it's basically the placental production hormones that a pregnancy test can detect.
Good luck with growing your pregnancy and patience!

If you're tracking your ovulation, you'll know that it takes two weeks AFTER you ovulate to determine whether or not you're pregnant.
I would suggest going to WebMd and making an ovulation calendar and start tracking your personal ovulation schedule. Otherwise, wait until you miss a period before you start taking pregnancy tests. Even the early response tests can be wrong before you've missed a period if your hormone levels are low.
And you've only been trying a week. Just be patient.
Good luck!

do not go buy a new test every day or you won't have enough money for the baby, lol! you should wait another week, in fact, buy the box with two tests in it, and take one every once in a while until you are. There is nothing worse than getting excited and having to wait a week to take a test.

if it was negative then most probably it will be negative again. If you a trying to conceive don't be too conscious about it. Don't keep thinking about it. The more you think the more it will not happen. Just go with the flow. All the Best. God Bless.
