You need to make a tape/CD that is no more than 3 minutes long. two or two and a half minutes would be better, It should have a variety of samples (short pieces, not full-length spots) that show your versatility. From serious to comical to characters. It should include background music and sound effects much as you hear on radio spots. These samples should be edited back-to-back with no dead air between them. It should flow.

There is a lot of competition in the voice-over market. If you're not sure how to make a demo, have it professionally produced at a recording studio. Then, seek an agent for representation.

Use material similar to what you are auditioning for.
If you are auditioning for commercials, then use someting like a commercial.
If it is for a movie, then use movie material.
If it is for a corporate video, then use that type of material.
Match what they're looking for.
