As far as I know AC appliances are measured in cooling BTU's common window units are about 5000 BTU's, and refrigerators are measured on the volume of the compartiments(like microwave ovens), either in cubic feet, or liters.

Beacuse it refers to the capacity of the interior - it relates to how much food it can hold
