Strike up a conversation with that guy. Make small talk, or go out for a cup of coffee or just go for a walk with them.
Chances are he might be interested in you and willing to at least see what you are like.

Find out about their interests by talking about your hobbies and likes and see if ye have anything in common to base a relationship on.

I think I would escape a conversation or any thing that will let us talk so I won't look stupid and he'll change his mind about me...But I'll also try to look confidante if I had to talk to him and try not to get shy!
