I was 15 when (almost 16) when I had my first set of wisedom teeth out (I had my bottoms done and then my tops separately). It hurt, but with the pain meds they give you it's manageable. My husband hardly had any pain at all, I think mine hurt because my teeth hadn't started to surface yet so they had to CUT them out rather than pulling them. IF you follow the doctor's instructions and take care of them, then it should only last a couple days. But remember when they say NO smoking, they MEAN it, my husband got dry socket (which hurts worse than getting your teeth out AND lasts a lot longer), I don't know you and don't know if you're into that (you SHOULDN'T be at your age, but let's be honest many people your age ARE), but please try to refrain for a few days (hey look at this as a chance to quit), if you don't smoke GREAT you won't have to worry about it, but watch the straws those can cause it too. You are a LITTLE young to be having your wisedom teeth out, but I'm sure your dentist is doing what he thinks is best (I had mine out so early because I was going to have jaw surgery and they needed to drill holes where my wisedom teeth were, and they needed me to have them out and have them healed before they could do the surgery). Anyway remember that millions of people have this done and survive, and they compair the worst dental experience to getting a root canal, not getting your wisedom teeth removed, so it isn't THAT bad! Good luck!

I was 16 years old when the dentist removed all four of my wisdom teeth. It was nothing really. They gave me a shot and the gas that makes you sleep. I felt nothing during the surgery. The nurse said I was trying to talk about my boyfriend lol. Just the effect of the drugs. After, I had to take pain pills but I can't remember any pain now that it's all over. I know surgery is scary - and what they might mess up on and leave you to deal with - but you will be alright! They do that proceedure a lot and you will be fine. It's better that having your teeth grow in all jacked up and causing bigger problems - that's why they need to come out. Be brave!!!

Im 16 and I just got mine out almost a week ago, I was scared too but dont be, you seriously wont remember a thing or I didn't anyway, but I was completely put to sleep. You will be pretty out of it right after your removal and you will be really tired too. I promise it wont that big of a deal at all. I'm not gonna lie it will hurt when it's over. Normally the worst pain is 3-4 days after the removal then it just gets easier form there. It hasn't even been a week and i'm felling pretty good so you probably will too. Good Luck!!

I had mine done at 16. I remember someone saying they woke up crying, and I did too. So knowing that ahead of time was kind of comforting. My dad got his done at the same time. I had no problems (lost a bit of blood, but it IS surgery) and had some swelling etc for a few days. Just keep some 800mg Ibuprofin on hand from the doc, that really helps. Sleep it off. Now my dad, who waited until he was in his 40s...he waited wayyyyy too long. His jaw had cracked in two places and he was pretty uncomfortable. I say you are in the perfect time to do it. You are old enough to know that they do need to come out. You are completely young enough to get better quickly. Just try to not mess with that area with your tongue. Easier said than done. Do exactly what the dentist tells you to do, to take care of them and they will heal much faster. It's not a big deal, I promise. DO choose to be asleep if you can.

I was about 27 when I had the bottom two done, and it really wasn't that bad at all. I had Novacain and it went fine. They gave me two shots, one in each side, and then about halfway through pulling the second tooth it started to wear off a teeny bit so I had them give me another shot. It is good to get them out of there, because they can really mess up your mouth. They stitched me up and gave me a prescription for Percocet. I went back a few days later to get the stitches out, they gave me a syringe to squirt down in the holes to keep them clean (this is very important) and my cheeks swelled a little bit. Swish with salt water, it is very soothing. The pharmacy gave me a generic for the Percocet, however, which made me sick, so I ended up taking just Advil instead. If they give you a prescription for something, go with the brand name; regular Percocet works fine for me, but that generic sure didn't. My teeth were pretty impacted so my mouth was sore for the first two weeks, so be sure and eat well before you go. Eating the first week was a little difficult, so take your time. I had a top one removed a few years ago and it never hurt at all. I had Novacain because he was filling a cavity, so he went ahead and pulled it for me. If I hadn't seen the tooth and felt him tugging on it I would have never know it was out. That's how easy the top ones are. Painless! I never felt any pain, not even after the Novacain wore off. You can't beat that. The holes heal from the bottom up, so you will have to clean them out with the syringe for a while, but it doesn't hurt. Best of luck to you!

I was 17 when I got 3 of them removed. I was knocked out so the during I don't remeber. The after was painful when I woke up and I hadn't taken any pain meds. But I was okay once the drugs kicked in! It is kind of weird having wholes in your mouth that you have to worry about not getting food in. It's okay though I was prescribed medication prior to the surgery to prepare for the pain I guess. The second time I had the last one removed and I was awake but it just felt like pressure. No big deal! You will be okay. I did have bruises on my face for a week.

I was in college when I got mine out.
I had a high pain threshold and had them out under novicane. You talk about anxiety!!! I won't describe it in detail, however, if I had to do it over again I would have them out while I was full out (under general anesthetic).
It is not a matter of how old you are, it is a matter of how leaving them in will affect your entire mouth - bite, etc. And of course, if they are causing pain??
Regarding your anxiety, know that it will hurt, and you won't feel that great immediately after, for a while, but it is not a life-threatening procedure in any way.
To help your anxiety and panic, eating a diet that stresses protein (poultry and fish are best, unless you are a vegetarian and then soy is very good), low glycemic carbohydrates (look up a glycemic index) and good fat (olive oil for cooking, almonds or peanuts for snacking), may ease you during this stressful time.

I was told that I would have to have mine out when I was 15. I know it's scary but it's really not that bad. I would get put to sleep though. I was awake for 2 of mine and it didn't hurt but the anxiety of what was coming was still there. By being asleep, you don't know what's going. It's really not that bad though. You'll get some stiches maybe and they'll give you something for the pain. You'll be in and out in an hour or less. Don't worry though. You'll be alright
