Lettuce rots in a plastic bag. I take it out when I get home from the store and rinse the whole bunch, then shake it off and wrap in two paper towels. It then lasts longer than if thrown in the plastic bag into the vegetable drawer. We buy lots of Romaine lettuce for our tortoises and some butterleaf or iceberg for our salads and sandwiches and tacos.

So glad you asked, as this has bothered me for quite a long time. Recently I found (at Walmart) a bag of Mills Family Farms "sandwich & salad lettuce" called "whole leaves" in a large ziploc type bag. I take out what I need (a few leaves) & zip up the remainder. Believe it or not, it stays fresh for a whole week & doesn't get limp & crummy looking. I'm impressed !! Hope this helps.

I have found by coring it. What I mean is the stem end, bang it on the counter take it out. Run cold water all thru the leaves shake water out and put in plastic bowl. It keeps about 2 weeks that way in your veggie bin.
