Bhagavad Gita States that Real Religion means To Love God. Religion teaches how to revive that love. And Loving God, you cannot ignore God's Childrens or even Gods Creation. All other things that does not teach this is simply waste of time.
But now a days love means Exploiting others for Self Fun. and as soon as that fun is spoiled Divorce or hate. That is not Love. That is Lust.
You cannot learn true love unless you revive this love of God. hence you will end in frustation. The Soul hankers for this true love. If you learn to love God then you will be successful in loving everyone.

Someone said 'love without religion is lust'? Hello? Love without care of the other person is lust. No need for religion here.
Anyway. . . to the question I think love is more important than religion. You can have love without religion (and no it's not lust) but if you have religion without love you get judgementalism, or worse, terrorism.

Love is going to get you a lot further spiritually than religion can. Love all life and you love God.

You should defiantly look for Religion 1st. Because if your god prefers you to marry someone of your own religion if you don't do that you could be sinning. ( Every sin counts!) And it also works much better!

Religion without love is nothing. Love without true religion is lust.
