the egg stays where it is - in the ovary. it turns into seed there. so the pollen must germinate (into a structure called pollen tube) and this tube grows through the pistil and delivers the germ cells to fertilize the egg. cut open a ripening seed pod of a flower and u will see the growing seeds. or imagine a green pepper cut open or green peas in the pod - the seeds are attached to something that is called placenta, actually. and before fertilization they were not seeds but eggs. and through this place of attachment they were fertilized. it is not like human egg that itself travels from ovary to uterus and gets fertilized on the way.

In most of the flowers four whorls are present . the inner most is called gynoecium which consists of a swollen part at base , called ovary. Ovary conatins ovules inside which lie egg cell towards the micropylar end. During fertilization sperm fuses with ova to produce a zygote which evantually develops into an embryo .

The flowering plants (also called angiosperms) are a major group of land plants. They comprise one of the two groups in the seed plants, distinct in covering their seeds by enclosing them in a true fruit. They bear the reproductive organs in a structure called a flower; the ovule is enclosed within a carpel, which will lead to a fruit.

In the other major group of seed plants, called gymnosperms, the ovule is not enclosed at pollination and the seeds are not in a true fruit, although woody or fleshy cones often enclose and cover the seeds during maturation

A sperm cell and tube cell burrow through the style down to the stigma. This is where the megaspore (egg) is. The sperm cell enters through a small hole in the megaspore which then causes the egg to become a diploidy state.

Pollen is deposited on the stigma, travels down the style to the ovary, and fertilizes the ovum. See attached diagram.
