You should read Joseph Campbell's "The Power of Myth" and draw your own conclusion.
For example, there is a story in the Hindu religion about a baby who is put into the water to save him from harm and who is rescued by a princess. The same story is told of Moses in the Bible. You will learn that there are many similar stories that appear in many different cultures.
If you'd rather you can buy the "Power of Myth" on video or borrow it from the library.

They are both Hanged Gods, to be sure. But Odin sacraficed himself to himself in His search for knowledge. Very shamanistic. I've heard that in the earlier legends Odin wasn't the cheif god or the Creator, but that his story eclipsed an earlier god who was. Odin may have been an actual person at one time. Some gods start out as a dead human who is petitioned to intervein in the spirit world for the behalf of the living. This practice, over time, can create a god out of a dead person. If I remember correctly, Odin is supposed to own a magickal spear.
Jesus supposedly died for our sins. I think His death had more to do with Roman criminal law though. His followers had to make His death have some sort of meaning, right?

Odin had nothing to do with Jesus. He was supposed to be a deity or at best a Germanic God worshiped by Germanic neopagans. Jesus Christ is the the saviour of the whole world. No need to sin against Holy Spirit.

Odin hung on the tree of life after spearing himself to gain knowledge of what the tree represented. this is also the story where the runes came from.(from my daughter, age 17)
Jesus died on the cross to save mankind and was speared by the Romans to make sure He was dead.
satan has counterfeited every thing of God, there are so many tales and stories that when the true is put in front of people, they are so used to the lies, they can not see it.
odin did it for himself, Jesus died for the love of us and in obedience to God.

Sounds like we Christians should sue for plagerism, as Jesus lived about 400-500 years before the Vikings ever appeared in history.

interesting...a lot of similar stories are in different religions...in fact why not?all the religions learn almost the same thing:to don't kill, steal etc. so what if the religions were made up...that explains why some stories are similar...OR...it could mean that there are more ways to Heaven, that there is not just one religion that assure your way to Heaven(or call it whatever u want) so the stories were made up so we can be moral person and to go to Heaven(or whatever the name is) if there is an afterlife..

For more such coincidences, read also about Mithra, Horus and Osiris, Attis, Adonis... I could think of more, I'm sure, but it's kinda early in the morning.

it is a little strange, but probably not coincidence. easter is more or less the same time as a pagan festival, halloween is, surprise suprise, at the same time as a pagan festival, christmas is too.
what chrisians basically did was to assimulate parts of other religions to get people to believe in theirs.
