There are boiled icing recipes that call for regular granulated sugar but,if you are making buttercream or similar icing it would not be a very good idea to substitute.

not most times because you don't have to cook confectioners sugar ,,threes some good ones out there that you can but if it calls for confectioners sugar don't substitute

you can make your own confectioners sugar, just put regular sugaer in the blender

you can if you have a food processor, it just needs to be ground up finer or your recipe will turn out crapy. just needs to be ground finer thats all...that is the difference between the two , i am a chef and make my own all the time!

i wouldn't do so/ if it asks for a certain type of ingredient than go for that type of ingredient/ because you could be there longer or have a different taste/or crunchiness in your frosting
