l don't want to be talked to or stared at....a look or smile,a curt nod,any form of acknowledgment that other human beings are near you is quite sufficient, thank you very much.

I find it very impersonal. It's extremely disconcerting to sit facing someone like that and not have any eye contact with them. I'm from the North of England and I think I'm used to being able to strike up a conversation with random strangers on the bus. This never happens in London in my experience.

I love the tube and spent half my time in London riding it. I like the way the people mind their own business even with the crowding. No one stares or harrasses anyone. I deal with chatterboxes and trashy men's stares everyday on the buses in my city. The tube is really fun to ride.

Each culture has a difference sense of space. If you trespass into someone's space, they will ignore you until you go away (UK). In India and America the sense of space is closer than other countries, so if you are very close to such a person, they will make a comment, start a conversation and feel very comfortable with you right in their face.

The problem is that there are some foreigners who don't respect the customs of our country. It is tradition to travel on public transport in silence. Education is what is needed.

I like it! And you do get eye contact sometimes, but in the evenings when all you want to do is get home then you don't want to talk to people.

Well i guess it is still the same although my brother met his wife on the tube. He harassed her until she gave him her number and they have been together for years.

So, do you want us to stare at you or can we just go on reading our books?
