I believe it's right to have counsel. I don't believe it says they have to do a good job, I am not sure though.
I had a friend years ago that had a public defender that was assigned to him because he couldn't afford a lawyer on his own.
She had him do all the foot work to build his case. In his situation he pawned off some stolen guns that he claimed he didn't know was stolen. Anyhow they were trying to get him on that and also for stealing the guns. He had proof that he didn't steal them. The guns were used and the owner claimed each gun was worth over a $100. This would have been a felony.
The defense lawyer told him to get in writing from other places how much these guns are worth and to only bring the ones that were under $100. He still got jail time, but he did not get a felony which would of meant prison.
I'm telling you this because their may be something you can do to help your case, but you will need to ask your defense lawyer.
If your in trouble for drinking and driving then good luck with that one. Defense lawyers are ok, but a private lawyer will do even a better job if you can afford it.
The problem with defense lawyers are that they get assigned clients and most of the time they are overwhelmed with cases.

The violation would be in providing you with no representation, how good or overworked they are isnt the courts concern. A good lawyer is worth their weight in gold. If you have any kind of serious charges that may follow you or effect you adversely in any way try to find some way to pay for a lawyer.. and no I'm not one but have had my *** saved by them on several ocassions. Good Luck

You possibly have a case for inadequate representation and if convicted a possible appeal. Even with a plea bargain you can ask for relief based on failure of the court to provide an attorney based on the concept of inadequate representation.

You get what you pay for My Friend!
Have you paid the little weasel....if you have there are ethics questions involved and misrepresentation issues.
He could be disbarred or sanctioned
Either is unlikely because he would be judged by yet another lawyer.
legalized criminal organization
