'chorus' can also mean a group of people singing.
I was just wondering whether you use choir for, I don't know, church or something and chorus for say the chorus in a musical.

A choir is a group of people who sing. A chorus is a recurring theme within a popular song which usually gives it it's title and main theme.

a choir sings a chorus, but a chorus (being part of a song) can't sing a choir.
and then there is coral. which is a sea animal. wouldn't it be fun to see a coral choir singing a chorus!

I think you are right: the difference is context.
In church it's called a "choir". In operas, symphony performances, and other such performances, it's called a "chorus".

me thinks..... choir= group of singing singers
chorus= an effert (commonly applied to guitar) caused by slight difference in frequency speed...
the desired sound of a chorus though... makes me thinks.. like a choir
